Anyone have one of these? Opinions if so. I'm looking for a larger type blade/machete. I am considering the ESSE Light machete, the Blind Horse Knives machete, and the Condor Boomslang knife. All opinions will be helpful. I'm on my phone now and can only find the advanced search function.

I just used my ESEE lite machete to roach out a good sized area this afternoon(25x15ft). Still pretty sharp, no chips, it will need a good cleaning (yep, no sheath, but left some grime on there). Comfortable to use, didn't lose my grip with gloves, and bare handed, but I tied a lanyard on it. Went through small limbs with ease. Very easy to use, I am impressed. The only other machetes I have to compare it to, are a few Cold Steel kukri machetes, a multitude of Chinese made crap, and an old Disston machete that could use a good sharpening. I have heard great things about the BHK, Tactical Knives just did an article on the machete. I believe that Condor and Imacasa made the ESEE lite machete?, but I have had no complaints with my Condor Hudson Bay. I would like a lanyard though, but that doesn't jive with the HBC design. Tactical Knives did a short article on the Boomslang also, in the same issue as the BHK article.

Perhaps you could tell us why he should consider yours before the blatant sales pitch.

I've heard nothing but good things about the BHK machete, but it's not to my tastes at all. The Lite Machete is excellent, though the sheath available for it sucks. If you get the Lite Machete then go with just the machete and pick up a leather sheath for Condor's 18" El Salvador machete. It fits the ESEE perfectly and it's much nicer. The Boomslang is a heck of a knife, but it's a very different animal than either of your other possible choices.

What do you plan on using it for? :)

Well it is going to replace the Becker Patrol Machete that I've kept in my truck, never leaving it for well over five years. I plan on selling it cheap, it needs a new sheath. As the inside is messed up and sheathing unsheathing is almost impossible. Plus I just want a new blade for the truck. I use it to clear truck trails, around the house, and when camping. I want a strong blade but with reach, I already have a Fehrman Final Judgement, for really tough chopping, so I'm leaning towards the ESEE lite machete with the leather sheath. Anyone know where the best deal is on this combo? I can research it when I get home to my computer easier, but sugesstions welcome as that may be a while.

I went and picked up the magazine with the article with it, since I was directed by silenthunterstudios. From what I've read it is a blank stamped in El Salvador. Then shipped to BHK outdoors for finishing. So unless Ontario is in anyway linked to BHK I would say no it's not a modded Ontario in anyway.

I really like the Knife and sheath. When I'm this torn over two blades, I usually wait a week or buy both.

My machetes will out cut most cheap machetes because of the thinner stock. Most high end machetes are also crafted from 1/8” or thicker material. Aki machetes are very light, making them seem weightless on the belt. The overall light weight increases blade speed and makes for a more efficient cutter, you can work longer and stay fresher.

The blade blanks are done by Imacasa in El Salvador--just like the ESEE Lite Machete and the Fiddleback Forge machetes. Good stuff!

Thanks for the information. From what I have seen online, the Lite Machete sheath is severely lacking. Great machete though.

No it's an Imacasa.

It's an okay machete. Does what you need it to do. The sheath isn't my favorite. I'm not a fan of the retention system they have on it but it's functional. I do like the handle on it though. It allows you to choke up on it and that's a nice feature. If you can afford it it's a nice machete but like most "high end" machetes, they usually perform about the same as a 10 dollar machete. Only difference is the edge is put on for you and you get micarta.

Maybe I will just buy a Ontario and put a micarta handle on it myself. Is an Ontario blade as good as an imacasa?

I personally think the Imacasa blades are better, but the Ontarios have GREAT blades regardless. An Ontario 18" with micarta scales would weigh more than the ESEE, though, and the ESEE has micarta scales that surround the tang. They laser cut the the tangs to precise tolerances and mill out the inside of the scales for a tight fit.

I love my 18" Ontario.
I love my 12" "modded by me" Ontario.
I love my Condor Boomslang that i picked up from ^^^^^^^^that guy too. They are ALL totally different in hand.

Ok, I have made a decision. I'm going to order the BHK. I love the looks of it on their website and in the video.
Thanks for the help guys. Appreciate it.
