Blind Horse Knives remembrance

When you showed me that knife in Titusville I was smitten.

Yeah, I could tell. :)

It's a cool little piece, yes? I'm glad you were able to get one.

That's my one and only BHK. It's a very stout little knife that is also very sharp.

AND IS SOMETHING ELSE THAT JUMPS OUT AT SOME OF US.

Er, congrats. :D

I hope they keep the wide variety of grinds. I prefer flat grinds but I liked that you had choices of hollow, flat, Scandi and saber grinds.

Sarah, you have to break down the contents of that knife box, maybe in the lounge or another thread.

Oh, that is the contents of my knife box, 'broken down.' :D

I took that picture (and others) for this thread, posting here. It occurs to me that I have added more knives since then, and that a certain new yellow number would provide some fun contrast in the mix. ;)

-- I agree with you about BHK's grind selection. I prefer flat grinds, too, but it's nice to have choices. :)

I tend to agree - it's easy to say that it's sad, but in the long run, who knows? It might be a really good thing, both for those involved and for the consumer as well. The important thing is that both Dan and LT are continuing to make knives, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they both come up with next.

In the meantime, a little Blind Horse love...

It too bad to see a fine company cease to be. I have several Blind Horse Knives and always liked the logo and the story behind it. I'm sure both owners will do will with their other businesses, but I'll still miss the Blind Horse logo.

I met Dan & L.T. at an outdoor skills get together a few years ago just as they were getting started. The BHK Bushcrafter was a friend's design and I got one of the initial runs. Picked up a Nessmuk Necker and a Boattail Scandi along the way. Wife won a Bushbaby in scandi-grind at the last BLADE. I'm not too upset at this news as it sounds amicable and they will both continue to make knives. If you think about it this gives us 2x the knife options. :)

I do wish I had been able to get one of the stag-handled Sharpfinger style knives though.

Ditto to this. Theirs is surely one of the best looking Sharpfinger style knives I've ever seen.

I used to like seeing their monthly specials, some of them were still available on their site up to the split I think. I wonder who will get the old stock and will it will ever be for sale again?

this truly breaks my heart. when i was starting out i worked for Dan in the Cambridge shop i picked up a lot of knowledge on how to run large batches of knives through a small shop and keep the quality high.

to see their company dissolved is heart wrenching in 6 years they took it from a kitchen table operation to what it is, or was. i looked up to them for what they had done where they took the company name. truly a inspiration to me and what i have in mind for my brand albeit on a much smaller scale. ( one man shop)

but i know the boys will move forward and will take each respective company to new heights.
