I have really been leaning towards several designs by BHK, I was just wondering if anyone else out here in BFLand has (USES) one of their knives? What they thought of them? PICTURES would be great, this website needs more pictures.. and is 3/32 a good size for doing wood work?

Can't help ya with woodworking, but I can say that my small Cascade by BHK is an excellent FB EDC knife. Didn't break the bank to buy it, it's a wide > 3" D2 blade, and very comfortable to hold and use.

If you go to their web site, they'll have a link to their subforum that's hosted on another site. Lots of good info there.

I own about 6 BHK blades and they are users for camp and hunting.

Sorry but I dont do the pic thing as I cant be bothered with photobucket stuff.

No pics here either, but I am a big fan. I don't presently own any, but I like them a lot.

I've got eight or so but I have only used the Bush Baby and Long Trail for carving and they work just fine.

I keep the Maverick in the kitchen, makes a great paring knife. I just received the original MUK from a fellow member so no field time yet.

Both the PLSK 2's have made big wood into little wood and work fine as well.

Here's a few of them...

Thanks ^^ i can't decide between the mini cascade, the camp muk, or the colt maverick - this is for EDC..

I suppose it really depends on what you cut the most. The Maverick is a great kitchen knife and I believe that was the intent as they sold a set with a matching carving fork.

Between the Camp MUK and Cascade I would say the Cascade looks easier to EDC but the Camp MUK would be better for general utility.

In my opinion the price factor leans decidedly towards the Camp MUK for $100 +S&H (July Special) The Mini Cascade is going for $134 so for your first BHK I'd say go for the Camp MUK.

Well I usually use my knife for opening packages and preparing stuff in the kitchen, and occasionally work in the garden and whittling wood (prepping for fires) and making spoons and such when im just hanging around... which do you think would be better to take into the woods? I'm leaning towards the D2 on the cascade for that....

The MUK seems like it would be a better skinner and slicer but the CASCADE seems better for bushcraft and potential battoning.. any thoughts on that?

I have had pretty good experiences with Blind Horse, they make some great products. I'll post some pics later

Can't really say, I haven't owned the Cascade but I'm sure it's a fine knife. The blade profile reminds of the Bush Baby and if that's the case it will handle all of your proposed tasks just fine. I have no preference between D2 or the 01 steel.

Having not taken the MUK into the field yet I can't say for certain. Having it in hand I'm tempted to suggest that you get the Camp MUK. That way if you don't like it maybe you'll sell me yours :)

The full size MUK just feels right. I would think the Cascade a better carver, not heaps better but a more traditional shape.

I have 3 BHK's and love them. They are a GREAT value for the money, plus the owners are great guys.

When I first saw the bushcrafters I liked them so much I got a couple of them. I got them with black micarta and managed to get the ones with thinner handles. They're not as round ( more flat) than the regular ones and fit my hand better.
I've been looking for a good Kephart-style knife for ages at a good price and these are the very close to that style. Here's one next to my Spyderco Bushcraft:

syntaxerrorsix,

what knife is in your first picture?, the one with the handle nearly touching the date stamp

thanks

I own one of the 1st Run Bushcrafters, a Necessary Necker, a Boattail Scandi, and a Longtrail Scandi. The Bushcrafter was good for the camping trips I took, but I preferred my Boattail Scandi & it's seen the most use. The Necessary Necker is a great little knife, but has only seen light use. My Longtrail Scandi was a custom order, but I just keep using the Boattail. I like it, but I will probably end up selling it.

All that said, the folks at BHK make a good knife for the money. They've spent some time in the outdoors & listened to the feedback of their users in making their knives. I highly recommend them.

From left to right: 2ea. PLSK 2's, Long Trail, Bush Baby, Maverick.

The Long Trail and the Bush Baby could serve as a necker although the I only carry the Long Trail in the custom neck sheath and not very often as I simply don't prefer that method of carry.

Don't bother they suck. :)

I gotta say these are some of the nicest knives I have ever held. Every single one has the attention and detail you would expect out of a high end custom. You simply could not go wrong with anyone you choose.

My favorites are both sizes of bushcrafter and the long trail. Have been looking real hard at the pathfinder 2 as well but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
