Blind Horse Knives

I was checking them out this morning. I agree.

There is a simplicity and function in both RAT and Blindhorse that reminds me of the Kepart and Green River design knives. Simple handle sharp carbon.

I have a couple of their knives and have talked to them at some shows. Good people.....I really like their small D2 utility knives.

As soon as I can scrape a twenty together ( god that's pathetic lol ) I'm getting a small Tiger.

That's right! For those of you who haven't checked them out you can go there and get an American made custom knife for 20 dollars!!!!!!!

These are the kind of companies that we love to see succeed. They will be at Blade Show. I'm telling ya, I think the tide is turning and "American Made" is going to be the wave of the future. I sure wouldn't want all my resources tied up in the Asian market right now.

We don't care if you never buy a RAT knife, but we beg of you to spend your dollars with true American Made companies. We think Blind Horse is going to do well. ;)

STOP IT! I'm in enough debt already!

You know, I've discussed this subject a lot in the last decade or so, that American manufacuring would once again come into its own, and it would do it the way it was done in the beginning: through the small businesses. The big companies are too top heavy, too worried about upper management bonuses and such. They are dinosaurs that use too much money just to keep running. Everyone talks about "lean manufacturing", and they don't want to hear it, but the biggest cost savings would be for the large companies to fire most of their upper and middle management that do nothing but suck resources and produce nothing but paper. It pisses me off that these companies cry poor, keep their employess barely scraping along at $8/hr, and yet take home multimillion dollar bonuses for themselves.

Whereas small companies are lean by definition, everyone, even the owners chips in for the win. I've seen a lot of really good companies fall victim to "big company disease" and go right in the can. Good example is Gateway computers. When they started out, they used excellent components, competed heavily on price, and had great customer service. Then they got successful and went to the "big business" paradigm: cut customer service, take to using the cheapest components, and charge more for them, to increase the profit margin for upper management. Used to be a time when all I would buy was Gateway computers, now you'd have to pay me to take one.

I thionk the future of American business is the small company. When you get so big an popular that you'd HAVE to expand into the "big business" arena, I think you'd be better off pulling a Jerry Busse and spinning off another company. Thing is, people don't want competition, what they don't realize (and apparently he did) is that while Swamp Rat makes (cheaper) carbon steel versions of the Busse INFI products, and Scrapyard makes even more "budget conscious" versions, they really have different markets, and aren't directly competing with each other, and what you have is 3 thriving companies instead of one swirling down the bowl trying to be a "big company".

Sorry for the rant, but I wish more people would get with the program, and make "American made" mean what it used to.

I completely agree with you on the way Busse has managed his companies. They put out a great product, have a no bullshit warranty, maintain a good following (by obviously listening to their customer base) and grow when necessary. That's good business practice and they're due every bit of the success they enjoy. If anyone believes otherwise then you should be at a Blade Show and watch their booth. It's amazing at the following they have. Then you get into the old dinosaur companies (won't mention any names here) that believe that investing heavily in new American made product is counter-productive and that customers should flock to them simply because of their name. They actually feel that the customer owes them their business. They sit on their corporate asses and refuse to make decisions, refuse to listen to customers and refuse to improve anything about the old company and then wonder why the little guys are kicking ass. More power to the little man who has honor, integrity and gives those values in equal share to his customer base. You bet, the companies like Blind Horse, RAT Cutlery and a lot of others are going to do well in the future. Hell, I'm gonna go over and buy me a Blind Horse knife to play with.

well i cant tell you how excited i am!!!

Blind horse knives and RAT....

i wholeheartedly admire the fellows involved with these companies. the fact that the USER is key to the MAKERS decision process...

I have knives from both companies....and one in the initial design phase with one of them...I will never look at American knife companies with the same eyes as i do these two...

Great Gentelman and true humble souls.

tony, this is why i love the BH stuff so much...I met LT at a gunshow here about two years ago and was hooked...he an I just sat and talked about his stuff for awhile and we exchanged contact information and discussed a custom knife..I commisioned him to make me that knife and it is my absolute favorite knife for so many reasons. We talked on the phone many times and discussed ideas we had and one day he told me he was Forming a new company. Blind Horse. I was excited. soon after he and Dan (his buisness and knife making partner) came back to the gunshow and i purchased one of the new Work Horse series knives...I have been a devout follower of the knife since...i have never found D2 to be this good..(i think they have a magic formula or something). We talked some more and ideas were thrown around changes and additions to knives were addressed and considered and in some cases made. And now my Custom knife LT made for me almost two years ago has morphed into a prototype for a large chopper idea for them...now can you feel the excitement...and to top it all off, the Open welcome from a company that exemplifies true heart.....WOW! i would love to see where this can go!
