I'm not a big knife collector but I didn't realize what I had until I looked around this forum. I found this Lynn Dawson knife on sale for a really good price in a LGS a number of years back. No box or papers. Just a tag with her name and price on it. I made a simple kydex sheath for it since it didn't come with one. I like no nonsense purpose designed objects and Lynn's knife really appealed to me. I've contacted Dawson Knives to get more info about it, but they said she's retired from the business now. Guess I'll hang on to this until I run out of fingers to grip it with and then hand (foot?) it down to one of the granddaughters who is really into knives of all types. Seems appropriate to pass on a blade to her that was designed and made by another female.

I got the following email from Dawson Knives with additional info about the knife.

"Hello Pete,
Sera jumping in here as Kika is out of the office!

I shared your photos with one of our production managers (who has over 20 years of experience) to get you more information, and it turns out this blade was actually one of his pieces! This knife is an original Cook knife rather than a Lynn knife. The two are sometimes confused because Cook and Lynn were a husband-and-wife team. The Cook line is also part of the Dawson family history, making this a great find. 😊

This model was part of the Diamondback series, dating back about 10-15 years. The handle is Micarta and the steel is 5160 high carbon steel.

I hope this information has been helpful and provided more insight into the background of this piece. If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out and I will be happy to help!

Warm regards,
-Sera"

After taking a closer look at the label on the left side, I finally noticed the "G3" engraved behind the name "Dawson." A quick search says that the "G3" standards for "Generation 3". According to a quick google search this means it "indicates their transition into more advanced, modern tactical and outdoor designs featuring upgraded materials, 3D contoured handles, and high-performance steels." If it's on the internet, it must be true - right?

It's always nice to find an interesting back story.
