I had this idea that I’d like to try and make. Essentially flaring the ends of the tang and sandwiching it between two G10 scales inletted to receive the tang, making it captive without a pin or pein. The scales & whole works will be mated with epoxy and finished to profile. I’m not seeing any negatives to this aside from the time required to inlet the tang to the scales. I’ve not seen this done, only pinned or peined ones. Am I missing any downsides?

This is cool idea. The strength of this construction will be determined by how strong the glue keeps the two pieces together. If you make the contact surface rough enough for the glue to stick I think it should be plenty strong. I also think that even if you make a normal tang and just leave 36 grit finish it will never come out of the handle.

You don't really need that much work. make the tang straight and inlet the slabs to fit snugly. Drill several holes in the tang and cut small notches along the sides. That will have as much retaining power as your drawing. If you really want strength, a few blind pins from scale to scale will make it rock solid.

The other day i changed the handle on this knife .The original handle was a hidden tang construction with metal bolster / guard and walnut wood and no pin . Until you try to take out the already set handle in some way, you will not know how frustrating job it is and how much time it take to destroy that handle ..... I take some picture but I can t find in which folder I put them ....here is picture of new handle .
