Blk/Brn Para Poll

Broh- It still could happen.
Spyderco will listen to their customers and sometimes, they deliver.

As far as knife requests go I've only asked for one thing and that is a cpm-m4 Para2 at 63rc . A DLC m4 with any color scales you all want I don't care since I can change them. If the knife was in m4 I would buy two at the minimum if it were a run of only 500 I'd buy as many as I could afford. I feel in my gut that a m4 will happen one day since there seems to be lots of interest I assume it hasn't since they have trouble just keeping regular Para2 in stock.

This thread slowed then picked up speed. Good sign.

I think there is a lot of demand for limited editions. Just about any combination, announced right now, would probably do well. About a year ago there were a lot of limited runs in the works. The orange and green para 2's sold out in very short time, and nothing much has happened since the orange ones were delivered. Lots of people are waiting with anticipation on the green ones and nobody knows when that will happen. History has shown that a limited run will get snapped up quickly (orange para 2 and green para 2) unless there is some issue that makes it less desirable (brown para 2 and blue para 2). I'd almost be willing to put up $50k of my own money and commission a limited run myself. The long delivery time for the green para 2 might hurt the enthusiasm, some people might not want to commit to a purchase that won't arrive until a year later. Hopefully Spyderco can get their problems and production back on track and more limit runs will happen in the future.

Thanks man. Very insightful.
A year can go by pretty fast though.
So, you would grab a Blk & Brn Para?

I already have the brown and silver version. As for the black and brown, personally it would depend on the blade steel but I would probably buy one just to try it out.

I like satin blades myself, and no longer own any knives with a coated blade.

The Brown Para with S35V is my favorite Para of them all. Looks great, tough steel, holds a good edge, and is very easy to sharpen.
You do have one of those don't you Rolf? If not, snag one sometime. I know how you love brown, and think you would really like it.

The P2 I'd like to see would have a blade of CPM M4, mirror polished with a rounded spine, then coated with gold titanium nitride, with black DLC clip and hardware. Scales could be black or navy. Have it thin behind the edge so the secondary bevel stays small and discreet and for high cutting performance. The same thing in K390 or even M390 would be similarly awesome.

Metalworking tooling gets gold nitrided all the time after final grinding and polishing, so this cannot be so difficult to do.
It looks good, resists corrosion, and is very hard and slippery. I'd love to have it in a folding knife.

I am also in for 2 with a little bit darker brown scales than S35V version, and black m4 blade and please black hardware(liners?! ).
Thanks and sorry for delay. :-)

Sounds great if the blade steel is right and PLEASE make the clip black as well. I hate the shiny clip Spyderco uses. At least make it stonewashed or bead blasted.

Just cause I'm not aware and recently purchased the brown and blue ones, what are the issues you speak of?

The blue went for $180, which even with M390 is considerably higher than the basic version (orange, green, and brown are/were originally around $130 or $140). The brown uses S35VN steel, which IMO is more of a step sideways from S30V in performance (less wear resistance, easier to sharpen/polish/machine) than an upgrade like M390, CTS-20CP, CPM-S90V, etc, and it went for the aforementioned ~ $135-140.

That said, brown and blue are the only two I own at the moment, and I've been very impressed with both.

Oh yeah, I'd be down for another with black/brown (or especially black/orange like redfeenix suggested), too. :D
