I gave blood for the first time last night. it was interesting, if youve never done it before and are thinking about it. i did pretty alright I guess. I didnt quite pass out but got pretty close. I was surprised, I though goin in...this isnt even gonna phase me! im a big guy i wont notice a little blood missing, well I was wrong ha ha. about halfway through i started getting warm....about ten seconds after that i though i was in an oven, couldnt stop sweating I felt ok just hot. Well i guess I wasnt quite as ok as I felt because two of the workers came over and let me know I was completely white and were pretty sure I was a gonner. but in the end I didnt pass out didnt puke and got a free cookie!!!! I do love cookies :) even though it makes ya feel kind crappy for a few minutes but its a good cause so i guess that makes it worth it. im glad i did it and ill go back the next time i can.

I went through that once. New to me, and I didn't know that was possible, so it was alarming.

It's that same "warm" feeling I get when I know I messed up or have to answer for something

Yepp, giving blood every 3:d month, alot of possitive sides for doing it.
First: alot of people need blood
Second: its good to refresh your blood in the system.
Third: you get a health controll every 3:d month.
Not bad at all huh :)

My wife hemorrhaged when our son was born and took 15 units by the time they were able to save her. You only have 10-12 units in your body to begin with.
I was close to being a new dad and single dad all in a few minutes.
So I am grateful to anyone who donates. Thank you.

That is awesome, a big  to all of those that give blood. I have tried 3 times. My veins collapse about half way through. May have to give it one more try soon.

I have been giving blood whenever I can since college. Around here recently they have started sending you an automated message with the date and time if it was used to save a life. I have received the call twice. That is pretty cool.

The only time I felt like I was going to pass out was when I did a "double red." If I am describing it right they pull out two units of red blood cells instead of one. Then they pump everything else back in. The pump back in feels cold and almost made me pass out. I hadn't eaten recently when they did it and I keep wanting to try it again but it hasn't returned to my local blood donation place when I was there since.

A big ole  to you BEEF! I don't think that enough people donate. I've been giving blood since I was 18, I've never really thought too much about it. It's just something that comes second nature, almost like its my civic duty to give blood. I only felt sick once, but that was because I had forgot to eat all day before I went. When they asked if I had, I didn't think that it would affect me. I was wrong, I didn't get sick but I came close to passing out.
Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm glad to hear that a few crumby minutes didn't deter you from donating again. Maybe it was just the cookie that has you going back. :D

Awesome Beef!!! Unfortunately I'm not supposed to give blood. I contracted malaria when I was a kid and have been told by the docs I shouldn't do it. Apparently once you get it, it's with you forever. Anyway, good on ya man!!!

Me and my buddy always donate blood together. We have races to see who can fill the bag first :D

You should go have a beer now, it'll have the effect of a 6-pack because your body is dehydrated/volume depleted.

I just recently got a Gallon pin. I'm probably going tomorrow since my last was in December. Good on you!!!!

The double red is a lot more intense then just giving regular blood. I thought the sensation of the cooled off plasma going back in was pretty neat. I've been donating since high school, not sure how much I'm up to on donation wise at this time. After doing the double red, a margarita will send you for loops.

Good for you kid. You never know when it will be needed. I have been giving regularly since high school and even a few special times before my grandpa had surgery since we are a match.

I've gave several times, and never felt bad at all. Hate to hear it made you feel bad, but maybe it was a one time thing.

awesome deed! I can't seem to stop getting tattoos and they wont take blood if your tattoos are under a year old.
