Blue dot on the Sebenza handles?

Hello friends.

Unfortunately I'm not very knowleadgeble when it comes to Sebbies, I can't even tell the difference between a Classic and a 21 and I'd like to ask for your help.
Someone offered me a large Sebenza at a fairly decent price. The strange thing is, in the pics with the knife he showed to me, instead of the lanyard hole there is a peculiar blue dot, like someone filled the hole with a bolt or something.
The knife looks like new, it has a satin blade and a blue thumbstud. The mysterious blue cylinder in the lanyard hole has the same colour like the thumbstud. The guy sais that's the way the knife came NIB.
I hope someone may confirm if it has ever been made such a variation. Or maybe it's a new feature?

Thanks in advance.

The cord isnt attatched. So someone took it off. You are seeing the lanyard pin...lol
The pin could fall out, uh oh..
Don't worry about the difference between the classic and 21..
One says classic, the other prob idaho made if a recent batch..
If you like it and the price is in your range, grab it!

The lanyard pin is what costs the money when you send it in to crk to change out, not really the lanyard cord. The pin has a hole in it where you attatch the cord so the pin doesnt fall out..Good observation

Buy it if you trust him. I'd probably be tempted to buy one if someone offered me a Sebenza at a fairly decent price, they're hard to resist.

make sure its not a fake, and if so pick it up. You said it was a good deal, but if its nib and hes giving you a great deal maybe its a fake. Theres not too much fluctuation in Mr.Reevs knife prices and thats the only reason i say it may be a fake.

you should post a picture, and you'll have better responses as to what it may or may not be. But it seems likely it's just the lanyard pin without the cord

And if it is the lanyard pin, it will actually stay in until the knife is taken apart and is removed.

Mmmmm. On the small sebenza this is true, but unless they have changed something recently, on the large sebenza and the umnumzaan the pin will drop free once the cord is removed.

The blue your seeing is just the lanyard pin. CRK used to just tie the lanyard through the holes, which I prefer actually. I like the fact that you have some extra cord should you ever need it in a pinch and not have to worry about losing a lanyard pin. When CRK first came out with the lanyard pin, it would just fall out if a lanyard was not tied to it. The newer versions are machined on each end so it will stay in place unless the knife is taken apart. Much better and helps to dress it up a little.

If you want help identifying sebenzas, PM me and I'll help you out.

Thank you all very much for the replies. Very useful and informative.
So there is a lanyard pin after all... :o In all the pictures I've seen so far, the lanyard goes straight through the holes in the handles.
It seems Santa will come very early this year. :D It would be my first Sebbie, I knife I want for a long time but there was always something happening just when I was about to get one... :o

Thank you for the heads up. I hope there is the real deal and not a fake, but I don't know the seller personally. I've seen he has favorable rating on the online site where he uses to sell his knives - all sort of knives, from Bee and Enlan to Kershaw and Spyderco.
He sais the knife is NIB, D2 blade, Titanium handles, very sharp, the usual stuff... Asks for 300$ shipping included (I'm from Romania so including the shipping charges was a big plus).

Are these the pictures? The listing I found says it's made in China. CRK knives are all made in the USA.

It's like this one, but there are two knives, not one. The bottom knife seems to have a darker blade, but maybe it's just the light.
Oh, and there is the same black background.

D2 is a definite no-go.
$300 doesn't seem like a good deal. I would wait and buy from someone you know or buy direct from CRKs.

Chris Reeve doesn't offer a Sebenza in D2.
His Sebenza steels are ATS-34, BG42, S30V, S35VN, and then damascus offerings, but not D2.
I am not sure what steels are in his fixed blades (non-folding).

The handle also looks fake. See the little hole on the lock bar near the pivot?

The real Sebenza doesn't have any hole. They put some work into making it look real, but it's no Sebenza.
