blue lander bowie makeover.

That looks amazing brother, simply elegant and well thought out. You have some skills sir. Consider my dress blown up.

Pugs, far be it from me to complain and all but you've been seriously putting us your devout fans on a back burner and avoiding us like ndogs feet after a day of hot tar roofing!

I know you got a semi dream job and other responsibilities and all but you should make an effort to stop in an visit us far more frequently.

Now maybe you could work on your leather carving an apply this endless knot, heck I can't remember what Shavru called it again so it can have a proper sheath. Although the sheath it came in fits well.

I have been quite busy, and alas yes I have been out of the loop here, for that im sorry, real life catches up sometimes, but I will make a better effort to spend more time with my friends here.
However I have been practicing my craft, I was introduced to a local knife maker at work a few months ago, and he wanted to see some of my work, (my boss told him I did so so work:D), well I showed him some pics and he gave me a few blades to do, well he was impressed to the point of wanting me to do work for him. It was very refreshing to do some different work. It's pretty cool to do some local work and get my name out there as well.
But I will be starting to do some work here as well as Ive been gone to long..... As far as carving I have been working some on it and been practicing when I can.

Pugs is like the kamis, he laves, he comes, he leaves, he comes...well one day his work will be rare and held in such high regard as Bura's if he stays away for long periods of time :).

Yes indeed that sure did clean up well with a couple coats of oil. Love the way the burned pattern looks. It is elegant and easy to identify but still subtle and classy. Very nicely done Sir Bawanna. And it's great to see Pugs again too. Been far too long, but great to hear you are doing well. Hoping you will get a bit of time here and there to show off some of your new work if you took pics?

Ever since I did Blue's knife I've had a hankering to do another endless knot on something. It's kind of challenging to get it laid out proper.

Anyhow I have a new Magnum Research 1911 C that I wanted to put some thin grips on. Had a nice piece of Tiger Stripe Maple that Mr. Bookie sent me long ago. Never worked with it too much other than his bowie handle which I thought turned out real nice.
So I thought I'd try it for some 1911 grips. I tried for a little more definition so used some alcohol based stain with a hint of red, I was not happy and got some of it off. My original plan was to do the endless knot and leave the rest smooth to let the tiger stripe show through but alas it didn't want to.

So I decided I needed to keep checkering, kind of a use it or lose it situation.

Here's what I ended up with so far. Got one side pretty much done, still got the other to do.

Not sure I'm on board with it or not yet. Maybe too much going on. They do feel wonderful in hand though. That has to be worth something right?

I like the X that it makes. To make it look even better, IMHO, you could make every line of checkering black (if feasible?) to match the other lines. Just an idear.

I'll have to give that a try, never done nothing like that. Be a new thing like Christoper Columbus.

That looks very nice. Have you rubbed it down with oil yet? It looks pretty light colored. I like the contrast. Good job on them bushing holes:thumbup: Now put the screws in ;)

I oiled it prior to checkering. I suspect that checkered area will be similar in color to the rest when I oil again. Have to find the wife's toothbrush so I can brush it in well.

Need to consider Mr. Talls burning idea a bit first. Might as well burn before I oil if I end up doin that.

Wish I could find a better way of doing them bushing holes, takes a lot of time and caution. That's not the fun part for sure.

Holy wow. That looks incredible!! Like ndog said, I love the contrast.

Not to stir the pot, but I'm not sure burning all the lines will make it look better. I really like how some lines are black and most aren't. Plus, I feel like right now, it is in the goldilocks-zone of business, and more burning would be too much going on. As it is, the center draws the eye, which to me, is what you want.

I think that the checkered areas will show the grain better when you throw some oil on there, which will only make it look better. Maybe try on a corner and see what happens? Next time I send you a knife, I'll be sure to send you some toothbrushes too. For your wife that is; poor lady must need a new one every week with you snatchin em all!!

PS. I love the chrome trigger and beavertail against the black frame. Looks very clean. Can't wait for more pics!

Speaking of which Single, are we considering your Bowie makeover a complete 100% success or is the jury still out on that one. I know you mentioned getting your brother to take some pictures but I need closure ya know.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being firewood and 10 being made an honorary Gurkha, where did we place?

You are most definitely in the 10 category, though I would label it "honorary Kami" instead.

I've been too busy for good posts, but I took a ton of pictures when cul's knives got to me. On top of the Western and IBBB which need sheaths, he sent me his Suga and Trisul so I could oogle at them. It's been much appreciated, with lots of oogling done and more to come before they go back. I'll start a thread on that, possibly tonight, and I have a few sweet pictures of my Dui Chirra that I'll save for another day. Probably have close to 30 pictures I'm sitting on right now... and a lot of them are with mine and cul's bowie together. Oh ya, you did a fine job on his too!! Also skip-line, but different than mine.

Ok, I'll post one pic here so I don't feel like a total tease, but that's all til later!

Alright then, so much for that idea. Looks like photobucket is down right now. They're all uploaded though, so if anyone's impatient, follow one of my pics there and take a look.

Edit: And we're back! Now, without further delay..

Mine is on the right, the left one belongs to cul4u01 and was also checkered by Bawanna. His is a first generation. I didn't know this and was quite excited to find out when I opened the box.

This must be the place. A great looking knife. The 1911 grips are superb, too. Then our Amigo, Pugs, comes up for air. Life just doesn't get much more gooder than this, fellers. Great work, Bawanna. Glad you can show off once in a while and "WOW" we lesser mortals.

As a side note to the superb grips, the Desert Eagle 1911 is a fine choice. The quality is quite above the price you pay for it.
