Cheers for the kind words peoples. I'm glad some of you are getting wanderlust. I'm always planning my next trip and can't wait to get away from the city for the weekend.
looks like fun, were you in the marine corps?
Haha, no. That's just a "Jungle Hammock" from mosquitohammocks.com. I've slowly converted all my mates into getting one due to it's all round awesomeness.
I did have people asking if I was in training on that hike though, rather embarrassing as all my camping clothes are army disposal stuff. $10 for a pair of goretex overpants sure beats $200 from your local outdoor specialist...
Nice pics! I guess I'm not the only hammock camper in the blue mountains.
Did you collect water from Kedumba? I've heard some stories about the quality...
I brought 4 litres with me from the get go and ran out when I was almost out of the valley on the last day. There was water up on Solitary in Chinamans gully. I never filled up anywhere. Next time I do the walk I'll be cutting down my water and filling as I go. I was carrying around an extra 2-3kg of warm clothing and sleeping stuff I totally didn't need thanks to the freakishly warm weather.
The water looked ok but I'd be putting purifying tablets in it. It comes from Wentworth Falls and has streams running into it from Katoomba etc, hardly trustworthy. There's a sewage treatment plant up on the Golden Stairs side of the valley as well. Another fine example from our government on how to treat our national parks and high value conservation areas... but I digress.
Awesome pics mate. I would love to go camping/walking down your way. All my bush time has been spent in SE Queensland, apart from some bush time with the Army at Kapooka and up north.
Where abouts in SE Qld? Lamington National Park is pretty mind blowing but I haven't been there since I was a kid. The only other place I've been in QLD is the Misty Mountains west of Cairns, the land of spikes, every plant/fern/rock/can toad is covered in spikes!
