Blue painters tape - Edge-Lock

I ran out of 3M blue painters tape so I picked up a new role a HD. All the new 3M stuff they had was marked Edge-Lock and I didn't think anything of it. Is it just me or does the new stuff suck? I get a gummy residue that I never got before.

I haven't tried it but I know the idea behind the edge lock is when it gets wet there is something that the adhesive is treated with that swells which is supposed to prevent any paint from getting underneath the edge of it. So it's possible that's whats leaving the residue behind.

Whatever that light greenish stuff is called , it works good too.
