Had this on the exchange last night, but decided I'd pull it and play with it a bit.

I made it some new pants before posting it, and Today I decided to see what it would look like blued. It was satin finished. I like it better like this. It's quite a bit lighter in the pics than in person.

looks like a good job.

what made you want to get rid of it? and then what made you want to keep it?

It's a bit big for my tastes, so I figured I'd move it along to someone else. Then I got bored this morning and wanted a project, so ... :)

I oxpho-blued my RD9. It also started life satin but I didn't like it because of uneven grind & finish on blade & spine was glaringly obvious.

Now it is a deep lustrous blue and looks much better.

I used Birchwood Casey, I may strip it back down and try the Oxpho-blue later. I took it to the belt grinder and thinned and convexed the edge. It actually works as a knife now. Pictures when my camera's batteries recharge.

Is this an RD6? I love justins blades. Very utilitarian.

Yep. I like the overall design, but they're a bit thick and the edge is very obtuse. As they come, you couldn't cut your way out of a paper bag. I've got it hair flinging sharp now. It's no Opinel, but it actually cuts now.

Yeah. My rd6 needed a bit of work on the edge, but for the thickness, I got a pretty good edge on it. Its heavy enough to beat a buffalo to death with!!!!

After a new edge and some chopping.
