Blued and tatooed -- Pix.

Fantastic work!!

How deep is the copper/brass/gold inlay? What holds it in place, and does this create a stress riser?

and I'll answer some questions:

John P. _"Can you carve ivory as well?"
Yes, If I had any. I'll include a detailed pic in my email to Uncle Bill that shows the antler carving on that seax. I can carve horn (like khuk handles) wood, antler, bone, stone is tricky tho.

Not2Sharp says - "How deep is the copper/brass/gold inlay? What holds it in place, and does this create a stress riser?"
The copper pins in the handle are of my own making, and they are 2-4mm in lentgh, .5mm in diameter. The copper and gold on the blade of the seax are ultra-think foils of metal. I etch a design, apply a special gilding adhesive, and then apply the leaf. Since it is so thin, it needs to be protected by a thin layer of clear coat. The blade is not tempered on this piece, there is no stress riser.

As I said in my post yesterday, I have some additional pics of blueing and etching that I think you folks should see. I'll send them to Uncle, since he can post pics.

Just sent them a while ago, UNcle. I'm sure you're gettin' swamped by th line of folks trying to get at that YCS...sob, sob...did I mention I like the YCS?

Anyhow, I sent descriptions along withthe pics. Use what you like, throw the rest away.

Perhaps we could post some more pix to the "Pics from keith thread, Uncle Bill? You could post the remaining few pics, or I could crp some and send 'em.... I know. This could be seen as showing offf.....................Keith

Uncle Bill,

I know you are busy - if you would prefer, I would be happy to put Keith's pics on my webspace and post 'em in a thread here.
