Seen someone that used some kind of rub on blue stuff on a few of there beckers, I was wondering what it was they used and hows it holding up?

Can't remember the thread.....

Cold bluing. Use Birchwood Casey Perma Blue. Recommended to me by tradewater. Good stuff.

I'll also recommend Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. Read the reviews.

Bryfry cold blued some esee's, and it looks pretty awesome. I don't have any experience with blued finish on knives but I do have a blue steel 1911, I can tell you the finish wears rather easily. Then again the regular black coatings also wear off really easily, I think the only difference is that with the bluing the wear would actually look attractive.

I did mine with perma blue. It holds up well, just purchase some 0000 steel wool to buff it with and your fine. Not sure which thread your talking about tho, do you remember how long ago it was?

O haha. I didn't make a thread with a step by step. all I did was drop the blade in the bluing the first application for an even base. Then follow the instructions on the bottle which are let sit for 1 minute, wash with water, buff with steel wool. Then I sanded the area I wanted lighter with fine sand paper. Then I reapplied blue to areas I wanted darker with a sponge then wash buff again and reapply 2 more times. And remember it gets darker overnight.

I'm putting some finishing touches on my BK2 and plan on Bluing it in the next couple weeks. I'll write it up once I get to that point.

Would hot blueing ruin the heat treatment.
By this I mean putting the blade in the oven, lets say 200-300 degrees for 10 min, apply blueing, put back in oven for 10 minutes .
I did this with a 22 rifle about 20 yrs ago and it held up well.

We're talking cold bluing here. No heat needed.
