Happy New Year gentlemen!

All right here's my dilemma. I blued a Kumar sirupati a few nights ago. The blade looks so good I need to do a Kumar Kobra so I can have my very own Black Kobra. Dark, deadly and silent.

But there is always a chance for mistakes... in my case it seems about 98%.
Everything went well until I noticed that I had dripped solution on the brass.

I figured that I would do the same for the brass, as it was already spotted.
No luck. I could only get some of the brass to take. It looks like leopard spots, but being perhaps a bit too concerned I was wondering if anyone has a few pointers?

I have blued all of my khukuries because i like the look of it and all of mine are users so it keeps clean-up time down. I don't know what blueing agent you used, Roger, but the same thing happened to me when i dripped the stuff on my khuk's brass bolster. I used Tru Oil blueing agent, and i found that the spots came off easily with a light buffing of super-fine steel wool. Then to get out any scratches and make it shiney i used some brass polish. looked pretty good to me. hope that helps. The other more experienced guys should have a lot more information to help you out.

Roger,
Steely_Gunz is right on target with his advice, that should clean up any cold bluing agent. If you want to darken the brass you will need something like brass black.

Greg

You know this is totally unrelated but....

I once tried to use Brasso on my motorcycle handlebars which were aluminum I believe, and luckily only tried it on one bolt in the gooseneck---turned it jetblack. So I did the other 3 bolts and it looked factory done. Ended up selling it to a dealer and they never said a word about it!:D

I've used amonia to remove blueing from firearms. It seems to work pretty well even if the blueing is set in.

I am new to the forum, but I am a gunsmith by profession. When a customer wants a rifle bolt blued, but not the handel I wrap it in black eletrical tape. This works especially well when you are working with an engraved or checkered bolt handel that you do not want anything to happen to. I use this method in my hot bluing tanks, so I assume it would work with cold blue.

pics?? post up pics we wana see pics... help donate to this forums popularity by posting pics of the HI products..pics.pics we want them

Welcome DAC!

I'm trying to get back to my friends here at the Cantina, 'specially guys like you Rob. I have seen the light my mostest holiest mentor. The Compound awaits your further enlightenment.

Next time I'll definitely tape.

I have the requisite chemicals in the barn it seems. I'll try them ASAP.

Pics? I got 12 thumbs and no connecting cable.I had my secretary wrap my Christmas presents for an insight into my dexterity quotient.
Uncle's camera is incredibly advanced compared to my tin-type junker. I also possess the superhuman mutant abiity to take pics of my thumb and people with their eyes closed.

Hey look at this khuk!

That?

that looks like a handle jutting from your thumb.

Imagine the possibilities.

Brownells, one of the gunsmithing supply houses I ues, puts out a product called OXPHO-BLUE. It comes in a "creme" form and will not run or drip on you. It is good stuff as well as the other cold bluing products they have. They even have 2 blue removers that work exceeding well if you need to start over on a botched job. Check out their website.

This thread has given me an idea for a new model -- the Leopard. We will send them all to Rog for bluing.

Tsimi my good half,
I remember it as yesterday ( because it was) that you called ME and asked for me to go easy on you.
I will this time. But I will not send the Leopard to you.
As I reflected on my bluing debacle I realized that it is fine the way it is and that you REALLY REALLY want my Leopard.
I'll leave it the way it is and be glad that yet again, another khuk that you truly craved and desired has come home to the Compound.

Happy New Year Tsimi, remember that my mostest holiest Mentor MauiRob is always right. :p :D

You know Tsimi, even when you change your name you are still my little doppleganger.:barf:

When I'm ranting and raving throughout the office building, swearing and cursing ( at my own mistakes) I know that I can come home ( or to my office) and be glad that I am in Colorado. And that you are safely in FL.

As my head of Security, Semper has already said that he will conduct routine exercises to keep the Dark One out here at the Compound. I'm not sure how many khuks it'll take but he's already got THE LEOPARD in mind :p I'm sure.

Jeana says hi too.:barf: :footinmou

The quiet of the Psychiatric Ward is shattered as the young Wildlife Officer bolts erect in his bed, screaming..."Leopard...watch out...he'll try to get YOUR LEOPARD!"

The charge nurse looks sadly at her assistant as she prepares the meds..."hmmm...now it's leopards...used to be bats. Poor boy, whatever he saw in that Cave has traumatized him for life." :(
