I´ve gotten spots on brass and nickel silver when bluing the blades on pocket knives and removed them with a fingernail polishing file, three grits in one inexpensive tool, great for details or touch-ups and easily available.

If there has been some improvement in the formulas of the cold blues they might help some but, I quite useing that stuff years ago. Wound up fight more rust than just cleaning and oiling the bare metal.:)
