Laredo7mm and etp777,

I said I'd get back if it worked or didn't. Bummer it didn't, well it almost did.

I forgot about adhesion. (OK everybody - let's hear the I told you so). You see my bullet casting stuff is so gooked up or covered with ashes that the lead just falls off as I pull the hot tool out. And the bullet molds are already blued somehow where the lead don't stick (if you take care of them).

Not so with a clean piece of steel. A few places where the lead didn't stick I got some nice bluing.

Just above the lead line I got some very pretty colors. So, I'm all for this hot blue stuff.

C-Camerer: I really want to see for myself, but I'll bet the results are as wonderful as you describe. I've got to try some Nitreblue.

The only trouble is going to be talking you out of a pint of the stuff ;) ;). Brownells only sells it in big containers. I don't need much if I'm just bluing a guard.

I would send you pint if I had it but I used the full container of salts so that I could do D-guards and not have much heat loss when I immerse the parts.

Thanks for the followup. Something I may still play with sometime. But not now, as I dont' have laad pot anwyayys. always worth tryign something new, as you won't knowtill you try.
