I am making a knife and want to blue all the fittings.
I have never done it before!
Questions:

1- Do I blue them soft, or do I have to H/T them?

2- I have Perma Blue, and Super Blue, and both are made by Birchwood Casey, does it matter which one I use?

3- Do I polish them or what grit paper should I take them to?

4- I will be using O-1, or is there something better to use?

If anyone can give me some insight to bluing would be great!!!!

Thanks!!

Rick

There is no reason to ht the fittings. I would finish them to at least 1500 grit. The super blue works great. O1 blues very well but there is no need to use good O1 for fitting unless you just have some small leftover peices that you are looking to get rid of. You can use regular old mild steel for the fittings. By mild steel I am refering to the steel that you get at HD or off a construction site. The mild steel blues nicely and is dirt cheap.

Please be aware that the "bluing" does not hold up well. It wears quickly.
