Blur non-assisted vs factory blur

Any tips to get the blade centered after de-assisting? I cant seem to get it.

I have noticed with my blur, when it was assisted and de-assisted, it has always had trouble with keeping the blade perfectly centered. The pivot screw on mine is extremely touchy, and if I'm not precisely tightening it and moving the blade back and forth, it can either come undone or be off-centered. I might try a tiny tiny tiny bit of lock tight or something to keep it from loosening in my pocket or from bumping something

My CF blur didn't want to be de-assisted. It wouldn't close all the way without the torsion bar........So I put it back in. Oh well. At least my tanto blur likes being de-assisted.

The blur that I have de-assisted is my tanto blur as well. I just can't get over the fact about how smooth the action is! It completely blows my mind, and I've come to enjoy it quite well.

Mine is deassisted and its smooth, but I like it both ways. However I did stab myself cause I put it in the left pocket once(still assisted) and it sprung open.. :( no biggy, finger tips sure bleed sometimes! I'm accident prone

I now have 4 Blurs, the CF CPM154, the S30V version, the tan one and my first, the black-on-black. I bought that one in August and became almost compulsive about snapping it open, especially while sitting on the sofa watching the tube. I had just started seriously getting into knives and didn't really know any better.

About a week ago, the torsion bar let go. I had read about de-assisting the knives, so I contacted Kershaw for more torsion bars and, in the mean time, I opened her up, took the bar out, cleaned and lubed her and closed her up. No question, these knives are truly silky smooth without the bar. The same thing had happened with my ZT 0350 a couple of weeks prior, and that too was wicked smooth. The torsion bars arrived, but I've yet to install them in either knife.

My issue is that I love the Speedsafe feature and don't really want to randomly take it out if it's still working. However, I also didn't know that repeated actuation of the mechanism, especially adding in a little wrist whip to really make it snap, causes premature wear. I'll be more careful with my other assisted knives from now on, but it's hard.

For now, I have 2 deassisted and the other remain assisted. I'm not sure what I'll do when and if the others break, but that's where I am now. It is good to know that the knives work very well without the bar.

Hello All- This is my first post, I'm a fng. However I've read an awful lot before registering. If I had known I was missing so much I would've registered sooner. Nevertheless I'm here now. I've been collecting, using and abusing blades since my grandfather gave me a wooden nickle (a very long time).

I received a Blur from my wife for my birthday in Nov '12. The torsion bar broke in approximately 3 weeks. I was surprised considering I had a leek for several years (before I gifted it to my father) and the torsion bar never snapped. But, I left the Blur broken and continued to use it. Having never taken it or my leek apart I had no idea that the bar, if broken wouldn't stay in place. Eventually the broken bar inside the Blur started impeding the action of the blade, so I tore it open. I removed the bar completely after checking here on BF that the ball/detent would work to hold the blade sufficiently.

I enjoyed my Blur without speedsafe, however the detent alone wasn't strong enough for me. So when I received the replacement bars from Kershaw I quickley repaired the speedsafe in my Blur so as to increase the blade retention. Waiting on spare parts around the holidays really sucked.

Quite simply, without the bar my Blur would swing open with little effort at all (mind you, it was extremely smooth). With the bar installed, my Blur needs a bit of a push to actuate the action. I enjoy there needing to be some effort exhausted on my part for any of my tools to function. For a paradoxical "relative-tangeant", I also enjoy manual safeties on firearms, lol. Even though my edc is a glock with only passive safeties. Sufficient for faster shots on target, especially after a long draw from concealment.

As for centering the blade on the Blur, it's actually very easy if you're dexterous enough. Hold the knife in your weak hand with the blade closed. Then using 2 fingers on your weak hand (while still holding the knife firm and steady) center the blade in the handle. While still holding the blade centered, use your torx to tighten the pivot with your strong hand. It will take a try or two to get the tension just right, however I found it easiest to get the pivot screw flush with the scale first, and then feel for the tightness of the screw.

To each their own on speedsafe; I love it personally. I just can't stand to think that the bar could snap at any moment, especially now that I know the bar can actually interfere with the action of the knife if not removed. I won't always have access to tools in the field, let alone torx bits. And so, I'm due to receive a zt0550 in 2 days.

I break gear. Guns, knives, packs, tools...I'm hard on my things, and few items survive me. I've heard nothing but good things about gen 2 0550's so we'll see.

Anyway, I hope my rambling introductory post isn't too annoying. Maybe the blade centering trick will provide me some redemption.

Welcome to the forum weech3, it's a wonderful place for knowledge and a horrifying place for your budget. You will love the 0550 Gen 2, it's a great knife.

I found the same thing, the blade would come out a lot easier. My solution was to snug the pivot down a bit. It's still smooth, there's just more resistance. The blade will still come out if I shake the knife, but it's workable.

I second that. And to note, my 0550 gen 2 has just started to become a lot more smoother. Especially after I got down the "secret" to opening it up with very VERY little wrist movement!
