Blur or Cyclone

He's probably playing with his ZT. I'm sure he'll be along shortly. ;)

Dang, I must have a different set of (4) Cyclones, as none of mine have any sort of inserts..

BTW...Get a Cyclone, or if you're REALLY feelin' frisky, get a ZT 0200.:D.

I knew it...I just knew it. :D

I like my Blur, my son LOVES his Blur.
I don't have a Cyclone.................yet. ;)

Personally, I'm having trouble deciding between the blur and blackout.
the real differences appear to be the type of serration (no biggie) and handle type. This is going to be a carry-everywhere daily-beater knife.

i'd go for the blur, since personally I'm not a huge fan of polyimide handles. The blur has the trac-tec inserts for grip, so that's a plus. But then again it depends on what you're going to use the knife for. BTW, welcome to the forum!

I don't own either one, but just looking at the information on both the Blur and the Blackout, I would choose a Blur with SG2 blade steel... which I might have if I hadn't seen the Needs Work in my local sports store.

Polymide handles are not bad, but I would prefer a Ti framelock or G10. I haven't ever tried, but I might try and make a framelock for my Needs Work if I ever get my belt sander set up and get some titanium to work with.

Guilo, you post reminded me, when I look around on the internet, I find some Blackouts and Blurs with 440a, and some with the sandvic(sp?) steel. The 440a is generally cheaper, and is the sandvic really worth the money?

I don't know too much, but when I posted a thread wondering about the steel on my Needs Work, Thomas said that Kershaw noticed a decent performance increase in 13C26 over 440A. I would say it is worth it, I have a Buck 503 that has 420HC for the blade steel, and it can't hold an edge very long at all. Moving up to the Needs Work, I don't have to sharpen my knife nearly as much, just a few swipes on the steel and it is shaving sharp.

Bookworm, the Blackout polyimide handle fits my hand very well and slips in and out of my back pocket with ease and is a good all around knife. That said, the grippier Blur should work better if your hand is wet, but it doesn't slip in and out of your pocket as easily. I've read somewhere on this forum that it wears the pants material also. But I think it is a slightly more heavy duty knife than the Blackout is.

Just my 2 cents.

What dmonay said. I have both and really like both, but the Blur has a deeper blade and is 'beefier' overall.

May be a odd reason for a prefernce - but mini-cy's carried tip up fit into my jeans watch pocket. Tip up because in my hand the flipper works better that way and again in my hand the thumbstuds on this design just don't work for me (removed 'em from most of my mini-cy's).Mini-cy is big enough to get a hold of with a big enough blade to do some useful work - while still small enough for a reasonable EDC. BTW -somewhat to my surprise -ZDP-189 may actually live up to it's reputation.
