Ok I know I have already posted about this knife, but I just want to spout one more time and ask a question.
First of all, I think this knife is the best knife in the world (well my world anyway) . I got it in a trade and was thinking after reading reviews here that I would like it. I was unprepared for how much I would like it. It is super over built, slick as S@#$, sharp as a razor and tough as nails. I can't seem to carry anything else. It fits my hand perfectly and can be beat up and show no wear. I recently had to have a bunch of carpet cut out of my house. This guy was using a fresh utility knife, and I was using my 705 and I was cutting circles around him. I was pretty sure I would need to do a major resharpen, but 10 strokes on the white stones of my sharpmaker and the thing was scaring the hair off the back of my hand just thinking about shaving.
So here is my question: I think I read there were some other configs. (different handle materials and blade steels) . Does anyone have any info on other variations of this knife? Much appreciated. Josh

Benchmade did a special run of these in Carbon Fiber with M2 steel, you would probably be hard pressed to find one but I'm sure if you offered the right amount someone would jump on it.

If you did find one and planned to make it a user it would be a great little piece with the M2 steel.

Good luck!

Well since I can't delete my erroneous reply, let me say that the BM705 is an excellent knife. I carry mine regularly. Please let us know what you find about alternative blade steel and handle materials.
:D

The M2 705 cuts and cuts and cuts. And while it is a tougher steel to sharpen, the edge itself takes well to touch ups if you do so before serious resharpening is needed.

I'd prefer to have the G-10 scales in a user, but it's a killer looking combo with killer function too.

My absolute best knife to date and a bargain it was at $200 new.

Outside of 154CM/ATS34, you'll find a pillowcase of hen's teeth before you find the 705 in other steels. Many of us Benchmade fans want to see the 705 reissued in M2, D2, or S30V, but we're the vocal minority, not the profitable majority.

:(

when I emailed Benchmade to cast my vote, this was the reply.

"I don't see one coming down the line yet.
Thank You"

Hello folks,
I received a 705s in a trade and I really like it. Mine is the regular 154cm and I don't have any complaints as of yet. I have cut alot of boxes already and it's still razor sharp. Right now it is my EDC and I think it will be around for awhile. IMO the axis lock is the only lock to have. thanks for the forum. dtsoll:)

newknifeguy, BM has made a couple variations of the 705, currently they make the 154cm plain blade, plain combo edge & a combo w/ BT2 black coating w/ G10 handles. They also made the BM forum knife, LE 100 pcs.,carbon fiber handles, M2HS blade w/ BC1 coating and a unpainted stainless steel clip, it has no black plastic spacer between the Ti liners, it has 2 small posts so you can see all the way threw the knife, very nice, and it has black thumbs stud, not silver ones. They also made a knife of the month (MAY) 705 w/ aluminum handles machined to look like carbon fiber, it has a plain satin finish blade, more than likely 154cm. I hope this is helpfull.

The Knife of the Month edition is actually ATS-34. :)

Just wanted to add the production photo of the 2001 Forum Knife. The 705 is truly a great small knife. The M2 really adds a lot to it as well. My 705HSBC1 has held an edge extremely well; much better than my production 705 in ATS-34. Plus, the carbon fiber handles I think are really a great touch. IMHO, the only better small knife is a small Sebenza. Great knife!
