Well, I took my time and gave both careful considerations. It was really nice to sit there in a booth at the soda shop, with the display cases on one side, fondelling knives. While there I also played around with the Manix, the Persian, and a PE Benchmade Ares.
But it really came down to either the 710HS or the Military. The decisive factor was that the military fits my hands much better. I really like the axis lock, and a limited edition 705 is still my nicest knife, but the military to me has the most secure and useful shape. I also like big bellies on most blades, so that is a bonus with the Military.
Another thing I noticed was the difference between the Benchmade G-10 and the Spyderco G-10. The Spyderco is much "grippier" and the Benchmade is smooth, a little too smooth me, especially considering how G-10 gets even smoother with use and wear.
They are both great knives, but for me the Spyderco PE S30V Military is the best folding knife I have ever handled.
Thanks again for eveyone's input. I now have my ultimate no limitations large folder.
