I just picked up a Benchmade 770 Osborne. I'm pretty impressed with the knife. However, the blade is about as sharp as a butter knife. Could someone tell me the best and easiest way to sharpen this knife? Thanks.
Hmmm, mine came shaving sharp. Don't worry, even the very sharpest knife earlier or later will become dull and will require sharpening. One sharpening session more (really it probably should be some strokes on SPYDERCO Sharpmaker) - is it so tiring?
I had a 770 and it came out of the box really sharp. I didn't like it so I sold it. I will go along with everyone one else and say get a sharpmaker for the job.
Seeing as how the primary purpose of most knives is cutting, I think one has every right to expect a $100 or so knife to be sharp when you buy it. Kind of like buying a new car with flat tires, when you discover it won't cut, I imagine.
I'm happy to say I've never had that experience. I've bought only one new knife that wasn't a CRKT thus far, and it was a bargain at $15, and all have been plenty sharp.
I don't know. From everything I've heard, the old AFCK is a fine knife, and I'm greatly tempted to buy one at Bayou LaFourche at closeout prices, but I can't help but worry that if a manufacturer isn't careful about something so basic as sharpening, that you can't expect their quality control at any level. Dunno, maybe I expect too much.
My new BM came sharp enough to shave with(I tried). I love the axis lock. I have never used a knife that is as smooth as my new BM. I would guess a quick touch up on(my personal favorite) a fine oil stone is all that is needed.
