I'm looking to buy my first "expensive" knife but I'm absolutely torn between the two. Can anyone give me thoughts on one versus the other?

The axis lock is very appealing to me as is ambidextrous but I really do like the bearing system and flipper on the 0562CF, the one downside to the 0562CF is it's not as lefty friendly as the 940-1 is. Also, in your experiences with carbon fiber scales are they very grippy? Thanks BF.

I'm want the 940-1 but I'm going to wait for initial reports on the quality before I drop money on it. The regular 940 is a fantastic nice for 120 bucks but I don't know if I trust benchmade implicitly to deliver a perfect $250ish knife like I do zt.

That being said, I will buy a 0562 as soon as they are available.

I'm definitely getting a 0562 but also want to get the 940-1 to try out the S90V and I had one of the regular S30V ones awhile back and loved it. Both knives are smooth CF IIRC so there isn't gonna be much grip but they're not going to slip out of your hand or anything.

After becoming accustomed to using an Axis knife as my main EDC, using anything else (even a ball-bearing flipper) just feels like a step back in time. The 940 is also narrower, slimmer, and lighter, which means it carries extremely well. Don't get me wrong the 0562 looks like a fantastic knife and I would love to own one, I just don't see it replacing my S30V/Al 940 as my go-to EDC.

Unless it's very different than my carbon fiber 940S-701, the carbon fiber on the 940-1 will be fairly slick, not grippy. It's likely to be a great knife - I have one on pre-order.

The one I handled at Shot was pretty slippery, it's not polished high gloss, but it's very smooth, it felt more slippery than my Al 940 handle, on that note though the 0562 was the same, neither will make good handles for wet/sweaty hands. It seems textured about like the 950 forum handles maybe a bit smoother, but the 950 has a lot of ridges in the slabs that greatly improve the grip of the handles, the 940 does not.

I'll probably end up with both for the blade steel and addressing the slippery handle somehow, G10 for the ZT or or perhaps a sand/bead blast to roughen up the carbon a bit. It's unfortunate so many makers are now putting premium blade steel in knives with pretty but poorly functional handle materials it's an interesting statement about how much people really use expensive folding knives for long durations or in adverse conditions.

These are totally different blades. Light weight EDC vs medium tactical (oh no, there's that word). Do you like heavy bigger blades or smaller lighter ones? I am one who does not mind EDCing heavier blades like the 0560 or a BM810 so for me the 562 would be the way to go. Both will most likely be excellent but are different in purpose and price. Also, I think you will have a long time to make your choice.

For me it's Benchmade 940-1 and Zero Tolerance 0562CF. Just hope the 940-1 has good fit & finish coming out of the gate for that price range.

I want the 562cf but I bet the 940-1 would be better as a carry/cut knife

Exactly. I'm confident that zt can drive at that price point but I've seen to much questionable quality coming out of bechmade considering the ridiculous price points for them.

I hope they can do it because I still miss my 943 that I traded away and if the fit and finish can match the price, I'm in.

Hopefully there will be some people on the forums that would be willing to make some custom scales for the 0562CF. I usually have sweaty hands so I'd feel much better while cutting stuff while having a more grippy handle material/texture.

I chose the 940-1 over the Zt0562cf because I wanted carbon fiber on both sides and I love the 940 it's a bigger knife but carries much smaller than it really is!

I've been burned on axis locks too much. Every single one I've had (except for the Adamas) has had or developed some variety of blade play that could not be adjusted out, and just with light use. I like M390, bearing flippers, titanium, smooth carbon fiber, and framelocks. Guess which knife I pre-ordered?

I much prefer BM blades over ZTs, but in my (rather limited) experience ZTs tend to have SLIGHTLY better fit and finish. IMO the axis lock is way better than a frame lock, but man bearing flippers sure are fun to play with :D If I was getting a user, I'd get the Benchmade. If I wanted a "toy" knife, I'd get the ZT. It's hard to imagine going wrong with either one though!

I prefer BM's other offerings than the 940 so it's a no brainer for me. I went ahead and pre-ordered two 0562CF's, something I just don't do with production knives. Both are high grade steels and Im well acquainted with them both so no advantage for me there.

A CF/S90v 710,707, and AFCK would be EPIC though... For me at least. Prices would be equally as epic.

I'd have to go with the ZT. After what benchmade did recently with their MAP I can't justify buying any benchmade, let alone a 250$ one.

This is funny...

0562CF MSRP $300 pre order $240

940-1 MSRP $310 pre order $263

How often did you see distributors offer 25% off ZT prices? Be happy you got Benchmade's for that good of a deal

To answer OP's question...only option is to get both

I pre ordered a 940-1, I can't imagine ever buying a zt folder again, maybe one of they're fixed blades, but not a folder.

The dealers I buy ZT's from and many others usually sell for MAP not MSRP. And MAP is 20% of MSRP...20% of $300 is $240, 25% is $225.

I would handle both and buy the one I liked the best.
