I have read, researched, and read again lol. I'm a one knife until it explodes kinda guy, lol. (I know, I know, it seems impossible). I've got 150 Bucks (Can get a new BM for that too), and have narrowed to the 3.

BM 940 is revered as EDC perfection from what I can find, BUT, BM QC seems questionable? I am slightly concerned about the tip on the PM2, and "hard use" although it may not see a lot of that. The Manix seems a bit beefier and thus, not so worried about the tip or "strength".

Anyone own (or have owned) all 3 and have an opinion?

I own a manix 2 and have owned a pm2 in the past. Of the three mentioned I'd go with the manix 2. I've handled the 940 on a few occasions but it didn't really fit well.

Another vote for the Manix. I honestly think it could make for the perfect all around "one knife"

I have owned all three in many different variations.
Here is my take. Manix is a beefy knife but wide and has it's quarks. Lots of people love them, me not so much.
1.940-2
2.Pm2
3. Another 940/pm2

940 is a better edc knife as it is so light it dissapears in the pocket.

Manix on the other hand is like an edc+ knife. By that I mean it will be right at home doing tasks that might be worrisome for the 940 to do.

Atleast that is what it seems. In reality I believe the 940 is tougher than it gets credit for. Both are very good knives.

Any opinion on which variation of the manix 2? G10 or LW? Maxamet, although I don't even really know anything about it, is a bit out of my range.

Ive never owned the light weight. I have own several other knives ranging from ZT, Chris Reeve, Benchmade, and countless slipjoints. I have never found the Manix 2 beefy or wide in the pocket. (I dislike that idea as we all are different anyways)

Ive sold all the other modern knives except the Manix 2 (and other Spydercos) If I was a collector, sure, the rotation would be nice and fun, but Im not.

If not the Manix 2 look at the Gayle Bradley 2. Id rather have the GB2 over the PM2 or 940.

I actually LOVE the design of the GB 2, but was concerned if it could hold up to abuse well...no reason to think it can't just based on looks of it.

If you are going to use it for for regular cuts task meaning boxes ,tape and food I'll go with the 940-2 it definitely one of my top EDC knives . The only knife that spyderco has that can compare to it is a caly 3.5 . The two you mention are much bigger ,wider and heavier. Take more space in the pocket . They are great knives with superior ergos .

Please, by all means, tell us more about your exploding knives...;)

Also, putting aside the fact that you seem to possess superhuman restraint concerning your large rotation of a single knife(!), I have recently purchased a 940. I haven't had it long enough to really put it through its paces yet, but so far, it has been comfortable to use and has had no problems opening mail (fwiw although ymmv)!:D Regarding the QC stuff with Benchmade, this is the internet, so take the chatter with some salt; Benchmade can and does make some good knives (for example, I consider my particular 940 to be well put together, just requiring a little effort put into recentering it ). However, there's been more than enough proof posted around here recently that shows they also can and do have problems with their QC. Do with this info what you will.

Tl;dr: I can't speak on/for the PM2 or the Manix, initial impression on my 940 is extremely good, and Benchmades can have some fit & finish issues due to poor QC so general recommendation is to not buy sight-unseen. Good luck choosing!

What do you want out of your knife? They are all good choices, but the right choice depends on you, not on the knife.

If you are a light EDC type or want office carry, you'll be hard pressed to find a better "put it in your pocket--always have it with you--forget it's even there" knife than the 940. If you get one with shaky qc, there are some things you can do yourself to improve it (or send it to BM or back to the vendor if it's really whacky).

If you are a heavier user and want a great slicer that fills your hand and can do real work, handling just about any reasonable cutting chore, go PM2. It's hard to find a better "middle ground" cutting tool.

I also have a Manix2 LW, but honestly, I've yet to see the need to unbox it. The niche it would occupy is covered by the PM2. I prefer the PM2's compression lock to the Manix' side lock--but that's personal. The regular Manix is also on the heavy side for my tastes, though it is probably the "hard use" champion of the group.

I've tried the Manix2, It was comfy in hand, but I put it back on the shelf after having it in my pocket for less than 1 minute.
I've owned a PM2, sold it because I kept scraping my pinkie finger on the handle's jimping in pocket, and the compression lock is a PITA for lefties.
I own a 940, I only plan on getting rid of it when I give it to my son when he's old enough not to lose it. Then I'll buy myself another more high end 940.

The PM2 is a better slicer than the 940.
The 940 has a much stronger tip.
Every other EDC task between the two is a wash.

I say go to a store, try them out. See how they feel in hand, and in pocket, Make sure you put your hand in the pocket while the knife is there.

This should be a poll. I have both. Well in fact more than both 940-1 940bk blah blah. The pm2 is a great knife bm always afraid if I drop it it will easily break off. But the 940's spine is designed for tip strength.

I have all three and prefer the PM2 by leaps and bounds. Manix 2 would be my second choice. The 940 barely gets any pocket time.

The PM2 may be the best edc knife on the market. While all three are fine knives, for the man with one knife, the PM2 is the best.

I have two 94x's and a PM2. IMO, if you're not used to carrying a knife, the 940 is a great knife to get used to pocketing something. If you already carry a knife, the PM2 slices better, and allows for a more secure grip just because it's bigger, IMO. I would assume the Manix 2 would be similar. Personally, I carried my 94x much more than my PM2. However, I now only carry either of them very infrequently. IMO, the 940 feels like a small knife with a large blade, and the PM2 feels like a larger knife with a small blade... even though both blades are similar in length.
