I've had three (still have two), and not had that issue. The copper one gets a little stiff if I don't use it for a few months; but it's a quick fix.
Regardless, best of luck with your search. There are plenty of people that love the 2 knives you mentioned; so either of them would probably be a reasonably safe bet... and, if you find you're not a fan, they should be easy enough to unload.
Seemed like the thumb stud sat a little low, maybe. Or maybe it was just me, but seemed to be something other than the stiffness of the blade.

940 all day long.
My 450 never gets carried on account of the persnickety flipping action. Breathing on the lock bar makes it impossible to flip.
Nice looking knife tho.
This. Aesthetically I prefer the 450 but could not stand having to worry about finger placement every time I deployed it. Never an issue with the 940. Neither were great cutters but for what little I do both were just fine. I eventually even sold all my Benchmades as I came to the conclusion I just dont care for their lock system.

To close to call.

I like my 450 but the "death lock" issue makes the 940 an easy choice for my carry purposes.

I agree with skyhorse, there is no wrong answer. I'm planning to buy a zt0450cf and a 943 again, and can't decide which one first. Both equally usefully, carry great, and feel great in my hand(med size gloves fit me perfectly). I think for every advantage/disadvantage of one, the other makes up for in some way.

I voted zt just because I personally like how it looks just a little bit more.

I like both knives quite a bit. The fidget factor is greater with the ZT0450. The Axis Lock on the 940 strong and reliable. I got the 450 first and carried that quite a bit. For the regular production versions I liked the 450CF to the 450 since it was a little lighter. For the past year or so now, I have carried a version of 940 pretty much Monday to Friday. I recommend the 940-2 or the REI version 940-1702. I prefer the G10 to the chalky aluminum scales. Both the 450 and 940 are great knives. Chances are you will end up with both.

Just came across the REI version today. If I go 940 that will likely be the one I choose.

Yeah, close enough that I'd try them out in person. The G-10 940 from REI is what I personally would grab.

On a side note, Skyhorse... If you order an Armalite AR-180 for $237 from that catalog of yours, grab two and I'll pay you later.
That REI model is really nice. Lol, reading my early 60's Gun Digest brings back good memories.

Between the 940 (specifically the 940-2 that I own) and a 450, I'd go 940 all the way. More comfortable imo.

If you threw the 470 in there, it's a toss up. Comparable size, blade length, etc. I'd have trouble choosing a winner there.
