So I just made some money and want to replace my Endura with something a little bit nicer before I go to college next year. I've got it down to the 940 and Sage 5. I'll probably end up ordering both from Knifecenter (sorry BladeHQ, they don't have a restocking fee) and returning the one I like the least. Never handled a Sage but loved the Sage 1, I just never got it because I'm left handed. The 940 is, well the 940. I handled it last week and loved it as well. To anyone who owns both, would y'all mind posting pics comparing the two? Or just giving your opinion. I'd like to hear some to make me feel better about my choices. Thanks!

KC does have a re stocking fee......I got hit with it when I returned a Sukhoi.

The Sage has a compression lock and is pretty tough to handle lefty. Have you tried one yet??
The 940 is comfy with either hand!

Oh well, I checked both sites and Knifecenter said they would charge "frequent returners". If they charge me 5% it won't be the end of the world. And yes I have tried the compression lock on a Paramilitary 2. I ended up selling it because it was too large but I found the compression lock to be very easy to use. Easier so with my left hand than with my right despite some people saying it's awkward to use with the left.

Dealt with them many times and made a grand total of one return......they charged me.

Haven't owned a sage but the 940 is my all time favorite. Id recommend the 940-2 unless you want to spend the extra on the 940-1 or you prefer aluminum. Can't go wrong with any of them. I would say your'e safe to buy used as well.

Or......the KW exclusive.....940-1501!!! Another fantastic 940!!
This one is my favorite!!! The G10 fills the hand a bit better than the aluminum!! Love it!!!

Depends on the shape/size you like. 940 is thinner/slimmer/longer, but it feels cheap to me compared to a sage 5, probably because I highly dislike aluminum scales.

I don't have a Sage 5 but I have a 1, 2 and 3. I also have a 940 and 943. Id take a 94X over a Sage X. I carry my 94X knives but the Sages are just too pocket-fat for the blade you get.

Yeah I was worried about the Sages being kinda squat (really wide andnot too long). The 940 literally disappeared when I put it in my pocket. And there's no way I can spend that much on the 940-1. I played with that and a 484-1 (which I oddly liked more) but $275 is a bit much. And I kinda like the aluminum scales. They definitely don't bother me and I'd like to switch it up. I don't use them enough as some people do for the material to be a an issue.

Sounds like you just made up your mind, I would have made the same decision.
Like others have said, watch the exchange. You can get one for a pretty good price.
Let us know when your 940 lands.

If you found the Paramilitary 2 too large then wouldn't the BM 940 also be to large? I don't own a 940 any longer so I can't help you on the picture.
I've had my Sage 5 for about a week and it's an awesome knife. Slimmer in the pocket and obviously lighter than a PM2. Sage 5 would be my pick but I'm bias. I prefer Spydercos to BM in general.

Thanks a lot Ruggdogg! But Wow, that just made my decision 10 times harder :) . I didn't realize that they were so close in size. I guess I'm going to have to order both and see which one I like better.

As far as the PM2, it just seemed like overkill all around. I think the handle length was what did it in for me. Also, the Camo Black combo made it a little too tactical for my liking.

And the 940 is the 940-2 which is $170 MAP. The Spyderco Sage 5 is $131 MAP. Between the two it would be hard but I would lean to the Sage 5. Being that it's cheaper, similar materials, great lock. The only gripe is that it's much wider in the pocket than the 940-2. Both would serve you well.

Yikes! I just placed a $315 order from Knifeworks. Took a little while to find a retailer with both in stock but they are now on their way. Man, this is a lot of money....
