BM 950-1001 Rift

There is certainly nothing that requires BM to put a billboard on the blade - other companies manage to do LEs without this stuff! :D

On the patina thing (and honestly not trying to beat a dead horse), I ran across another post where someone theorizes that vinegar somehow damaged their blade. I pass this along as anecdote, not science.

It seems like I remember seeing some of the LEs from a few years ago which had the information in a small area similar to size and position of the Benchmade logo.

I guess I was just hoping they would change it up.

As far as putting a patina on, I would probably do it as naturally as possible. Stick it in an onion or apple for a couple hours. Use it to debone a deer and cut up a lot of meat. I figure that should put some kind of patina on without having to dunk it in vinegar or mustard.

Guess I will see what I am feeling when it gets here.

Can someone tell me what the top knife is, must have one.

It'll look good in CF. There already was a run of CF/M4 Rift. Limited Edition for dealers outside of US.

Looks like the gold class 950. Not sure if it has a different number after the 950 to denote the difference or if it is just called the gold class 950. I'm sure a google search will find it and I will bet that one is pretty pricey.

You probably know this already, but the Gold Class knives are premium-priced.

Yeah I know. I still am going to get as many Gold Class Benchmades as I can, I'm addicted:D. I just recently tried the Benchmade line and am completely hooked.

Great collection, RX! My M4 Rift (#45 of 50) showed up with a nice thin edge (.016"-.017") but with bad vertical blade play. I adjusted the pivot and stop pin to no avail, however Benchmade should take care of me. An uncoated CPM M4 blade would be perfect, but I highly doubt that will happen. Hopefully they kept a few knives back in case they had a QC issue, or better yet hopefully they can get my knife right without having to replace a thing.

I hate to that gunmike. I hope you can get it fixed without difficulty. Exactly how is it getting vertical play?

How about yours RX, any bladeplay? Just asking as the one I have coming is going to be a present for my son, and I'd hate to have it come in and have to fix it right off the bat. Looks like BM would pay a bit more attention to a LE like this.

#28/50 showed up at my place today. I'm happy overall, blade is tight, no play whatsoever, but it was gritty as hell and the blade is off-centered between the liners. I'm overly picky, I know, but I somehow expected a little better fit/finish from a LE piece.

I cleaned the workings and lubed the daylights out of it and now it's a lot better. I think I can live with it :)

No blade play on mine and it's dead center, too :)
Could use a little touch up, but it does shave.

Nice swap of scales on your 950 John, looks really great...and Rx, I hate you...NAH~!

I have number 6 here. I was thinking about putting the carbon fiber scales on it but think I have talked myself out of it. The Rift has been my favorite knife for awhile and I now have 7 of them :o

I didn't see that happening and not sure what I will do with all of them. Might try to sell a few as I have some others I have been meaning to try to sell somewhere including the 710-801 with M4 steel. I got it because I wanted to try the M4 but just can't warm up to the design. I like the 950 about 10X as much so this M4 model is perfect.

Mine was not super smooth out of the box and I think it had to do with the black coating. I lubed it up good and sprayed everything real good with lube and then wiped up the excess. I have opened it maybe 50 times and it has smoothed right up and is now really nice. The blade is centered as well.

I'm not sure how you can have play in an AXIS lock knife. Does it look like the AXIS bar is all the way forward when the blade is open? Only thing I can think of is it is opening up so far that the lock bar goes all the way forward and the tang is not coming into contact with the stop pin. This would then allow some wiggle back and forth between the stop pin and AXIS bar. Whatever the reason, Benchmade will take care of it.

RX do you mind posting your picture link? I would love to look through your collection again. I can't even imagine what you have spent on it as I counted 23 of one model you posted the other day.

I attempted to sharpen mine on my newly acquired edge pro but managed to make it dull :o I still have to learn how to use that thing so that I can get this M4 up to the sharpness I have heard about. This thing is going to be a user for sure. Some new knives I hesitate to use but this one is going straight into my pocket. Might have to carry two 950s since I have my normal EDC that will get lonely.

Mine is right & tight also. Mike, I'm very sorry to hear about yours. :(

The coated blades are always IME gritty. Lube & use will make them smooth.

It got even better when I swapped the black chrome clip off the 940-701 for the parkerized clip on the 950-1001. B-l-i-n-g... :D

Mine is definately touching the stop pin, and the Axis bar is all the way forward, yet there is blade play. My standard model has not a hint of play, but my M4 model has some wiggle. I'm not sure what the fix is on this one from Benchmade, but I'm sure they'll make it right. I think they would have to hold a couple knives back in case of things like this, or they might have some easy way of removing the vertical play. I always thought this design was immune to play, but obviously that isin't the case.
