BM Adamas or SOG Vulcan? Help me decide.

Hey all. Been a long time since I've been on here. I am currently looking at my next EDC folder purchase. I am trying to decide between the SOG Vulcan and the Adamas. I definitely want either I these. I haven't read anything really negative about either in my last few days of research. I have read the Vulcan clip gets some complaints and that the Adamas is too heavy for some to use as EDC. There is nothing about either that I don't like. The weight issue does not bother me. I own and carry currently a SOG Aegis and it has served me well over the last few years but am ready for an upgrade. I have never owned a BM before but have always wanted one. I need help sorting this out and would love to hear your thoughts on each. I couldn't find any posts stating someone owns both and which they prefer. A few of my thoughts:

-I have heard great things about the vg10 the Vulcan uses. Is this a lot more superior than D2?
-I like the idea of the flipper on the Vulcan but its not neccessary as I've never used one before.
-I know a lot of people prefer the G10 over the grn for handles. I it much more comfortable?
-I would carry both in pocket as general use and also as a last ditch weapon in addition to a firearm.
-They are the same thickness at the spine but what about the point? Couldn't find a measurement of each points thickness.
-The weight or size of each is not an issue for me.

My main thing is this: the adamas is 40$ more for what I have read is not as good a steel as the Vulcan. I don't have a problem spending 40$ more but is the overall quality of the adamas that much better to justify the extra money? If so, in what areas in your own experiences? I know not many people are SOG fans and that BM are usually superior in every way and I have felt the difference in handling BM immeadiately. You can tell it is better quality. However, many people have expressed amazement at how well made the Vulcan is.

It really boils down to this for me I guess. Is the Adamas so much better overall to justify a 40$ price difference for what I understand is an inferior steel. (I know it is still an EXCELLENT steel though).
Also, least important but still worth mentioning, I like the Adamas aesthetically much more than the Vulcan, which is sweet looking to me anyway. Also, I read the tan will rub off the Adamas over time as it is tan on top of black g10. Anyone have this happen? Not a biggie, just curious.

Thank you all in advance for helping me out with my decision. I'd love to afford them both but that isn't happening right now.

If the Adamas fits your uses, its an incredible knife. BM does a great job with their D2 and its tough stuff in that knife.

I don't buy Sog knives, either. Won't get into that.

the BM is well worth the extra $40. My advice is to stay away from SOG in general, they're overpriced lower end knives.

The Adamas is a great knife, and one of the strongest locks out there. I would recommend against SOG.

Thanks for all the quick replies fellas, it is much appreciated. I am really leaning way towards the Adamas but mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't sacrificing the better steel for nothing. Nothing I read indicated that but figured I'd ask to be sure. Thanks again. One other question now that I think of it. Cheapest I've seen is Amazon. Any problems with counterfeit BM from them? I know some other things from on there have been counterfeit, namely magpul items. Or any warranty issues with BM if I went with Amazon?

A lot about steel is heat treat. VG 10 and D2 are both nice steels, but Benchmade does a top notch job with their heat treat while SOG is well...SOG.

There really is no comparison, the ADAMAS is a different animal and is one of the stoutest knives on the market.

-I have heard great things about the vg10 the Vulcan uses. Is this a lot more superior than D2?
Actually D2 is a more superior steel considering toughness and edge holding. It's a little less corrosion resistant but the coating definitely helps with that aspect. Coated or not, you really shouldn't have any problems. I've owned several D2 knives and I love the steel.
-I like the idea of the flipper on the Vulcan but its not neccessary as I've never used one before.
I like flipper knives just fine but prefer knives without it. I can open a knife just as fast with my thumb and it feels more controlled. The only knife I currently have with a Flipper is my Buck Vantage, my only complaint is that the thumb hole is pretty useless and I would rather use the hole because I feel it would deploy the blade better.
-I know a lot of people prefer the G10 over the grn for handles. I it much more comfortable?
It's not so much that G-10 is a lot more comfy, it's that they feel better, more solid, and not as cheap. GRN handles are lightweight but sometimes they can be a little cheap feeling, don't feel as good as G-10, and sometimes they can be a bit thick.
-I would carry both in pocket as general use and also as a last ditch weapon in addition to a firearm.
The ADAMAS Seems to me that'd it'd be more superior in this field than the Vulcan.
-They are the same thickness at the spine but what about the point? Couldn't find a measurement of each points thickness.
I really have no idea about the point thickness. The ADAMAS is a thick knife all around. But after seeing and holding one, the point is kinda thick so it won't snap, but not too thick and would penetrate quite well.

The Vulcan isn't perfect. I still love it. The flipper is great (once you learn to use it), the blade steel is great, and the few I have seen had pretty good F&F.

I will he the first person to knock the Adamas. It is a hell of a chunky folder, and it is not very comfortable in the hand. The Axis lock is pretty sweet, but I did not like the Adamas at all.

Benchmade customer service is second to none if you ever experience an issue.

That being said, watch this and tell me what issue you could possibly ever have...

I don't own either knives, but I can say with certainty that I would pick a Benchmade over a SOG if they were even remotely in the same ballpark pricewise.

Wow thanks again eveyone for all the info. Blade chick, I didn't know that about the steel. I was under the impression that vg10 was far superior to d2. I am actually very glad to hear all of this. I have no real complaints about SOG. I know all of the issues people have, even the IP issue. I bought what I could afford a few years back and it served me well. I definitely wanted to upgrade now and started looking at BM then saw the Vulcan and its good reviews. I was actually hoping it would make sense to choose the Adamas. Also, that is an impressive video Cypress.

You just aren't going to do any better than an Adamas. Have you handled one? It is just stellar. I've seen nothing like it but I will freely admit to having handled no mid-techs or any sort. It is really hard to imagine a tougher, beefier, more ergonomic folding knife. Now I am sure there must be one but not having handled one...the mind boggles.

The Adamas is that good. I have two, plain and serrated. Not a big serrated guy but no hater by any means. I got the plain edge and was so floored I got the other. I can see myself cutting through some very tough stuff with that serration...although I have yet to do so.

If there is only $40 difference, I'd get the Adamas hands down. Now if you were on a tight budget and were asking for a comparison between let's say the Ontario Rat-1 and the Adamas, I'd have a different recommendation...you're talking about $120 dollars difference in price there and both are tough knives. A $40 margin? Adamas!!!

Check out this video. Its what sold me on the ADAMAS. It has english captions.

I will say this knife goes through things I would personally never try and do with a folding knife. It does end up in the end with a problem but considering what all the knife handled I was very impressed and havent been disappointed by mine yet. The hardest use mine has seen was prying some staples out of wood and it did this with ease and took no damage at all. Even the coating only has one small rub near the spine of the tip.

I will also say that I dont usually edc the ADAMAS though unless I am out an about in the yard or in the woods. I prefer a couple others to the ADAMAS but that is a whole other tangent since you are only asking about these two folders :D
