BM Adamas or SOG Vulcan? Help me decide.

My advice is to try the exchange here on bladeforums.

Own both knives, and have used both alot. Adamas is underpriced, and Vulcan is wayyy overpriced.

In your OP, you mentioned VG10 is a great steel. It is, but somehow SOG found a way to mess it up. I have owned mutliple SOG knives in VG10, and it doesn't behave like VG10 from any other company

I seem to have similar experiences with the AUS-8 they use in the Twitch 2; nowhere near the edge retention that I get out of my Cold Steel Tuff Lite.

Also, Adamas, Adamas, Adamas! Such a great knife, if you can handle the weight!

Sorry but it's against the rules to deal spot. However if you go threw the posts in this thread again I do recall seeing an authorized BFC dealer whom I'm pretty sure has it in the $125 range.

Otherwise, look at the listed BFC dealers and check each one. I'm confident you will find one at or close to the $125.

Best of luck
Sorry about that! Didn't realize. Will do and thank you much.

I've received excellent service from both companies. Instead of painted scales on the Benchmade, check out the sale going on the Hogue EX-03 Extreme Tactical Folding Knife right now. I prefer the G-Mascus Hogue EX-01. At least it's still made in the U.S.A. unlike the SOG.

Adamas all the way, i held both and the benchmade felt better in my hands and the action was smoother out of the box. I also have been carrying a tan adamas for 6 months and just did a scratch test, the tan on my BM doesn't come off. The only thing that scratches off is the pocket clip paint.

that would be awesome if the tan was not painted on any longer. Will have to order a tan one if thats the case

Good to know. I saw a pic someone had posted somewhere where near the pivot some of the tan had rubbed off a bit after he had been carrying it a few months in tighter jeans. It could be as the previous poster said, maybe they changed it or there were a couple bad ones out there. Wouldn't bother me much as the fading was not terrible but you could see te black. I'll try to post a link if I find it.

The 275 feels like a folding Ka-bar to me. I love it. The only knock on it for me is that it's big. I'm my EDC setup pocket real estate is at a premium so it was a bag knife for me. Still a home run knife.

I used to EDC my Adams (I'm actually on my third now... I have a horrible habit of losing knives.. BM, Spyderco, Glock, Gerber, in at least three continents :( ). The only reason I don't any longer is that the city I work in now has a 3.5 inch blade limit.
I live in WA, and work at a gun dealer and have access to some dealer prices from various distributors and I'll still buy a BM over a SOG, even at retail price.

Dare I say, that looks kind of cool? I always like a worn look on my knives. Especially something as beastly as the Adamas. Oh, and I'd vote Benchmade over SOG any day of the week.

I have to agree. It doesn't look bad at all.

I have owned both the SOG Vulcan and Mini-Vulcan since they came out. I prefer the Mini Vulcan. I have had no problems with either knife. I find the handles become slowly uncomfortable for a big knife with use.

Today, I would buy the Benchmade Adamas simply because I have done the SOG thing and would want to broaden my horizons. You have the SOG Aegis. Broaden your horizons a bit.

There are many SOG haters on this forum. Honestly, I have never particularly had a problem with any of their knives. I have a number of SOG folders (Micron, Twitch II, Twitch XL, Access Card 2.0, Vulcan, Mini-Vulcan) as well as a number of the fixed blades (Field Pup, several Tigersharks, Tech I, Tech II, NW Hunter, Seal Pup Elite). The Seal Pup Elite was the last SOG fixed blade that I purchased and I still consider it a fine knife if you like the handles. I have not purchased any of the Chinese SOGs. That is pretty much where I started to move away from SOG and when they copied the Spydie hole. The Japanese knives have been consistantly very good. The last SOG folder I purchased was the Access Card 2.0 and I like this flat little knife.

I don't own any Benchmade knives nor have I had much interest in handling them. But in your case, I would go with the Adamas.

Thank you all. I have decided on the Adamas. I will be ordering it next week. And thanks again to those of you who reached out to me with advice. It is much appreciated. Rim fire, I agree with what you said. Part of the reason I looked beyond Sog is to expand my horizons and to get a higher end knife. I also own the seal pup elite and think its great. Thanks again all. I appreciate the help, knowledge, and opinions.
