BM AXIS AFCK review.

Love my AFCK - it's the go-to knife for most of my real hard use carry.

Why the big concern over the BT coating? If you are going to carry and use the knife why be concerned over the black coming off.

IMO there is something to be said for a great knife that shows it's been used and doesn't look like it pines away its days sitting in a box.

FWIW, D2 is almost as stain resistant as other popular stainless, it just barely missed the cut to be called stainless. As such, the coating is not a requirement to keep it from staining I think BM just does it for extra measure. Bob Dozier uses D2 almost exclusively and I have only seen one or two of his knives ever coated. I have 4 myself and not even had a hint of rust.

If you like the AFCK and want something with the same handle but a different blade then check out the TSEK, 440c satin finished with a stud. Also costs about $30 less.

I supose, it´s just because of "it is not good looking anymore".

I didn´t liked coatings aslong as i saw them as painted blades. Painted meant as an opposite of "true" or "real". But the BT2 has nothing to do with painted. It is a senseful thing to got it on non stainless steels. Yes, D2 is nearly stainless, but i feel better with coated D2 on a folder. A fixed blade does not need coatings.

Another point is, as long as people are realy deciding on "tacticals", coatings are far better than bead blasted blades. Look around, every stainless rusts, when bead blasted. So, fine satin finish or coated is the best blade finish. And BM did it right to come out with a coated D2.
