How are the Axis locks knives from BM ? Does the lock hold decent. Got a few gift cards from Bass pro and was thinking about picking up the Osbourne or Bone Collector.

Thanks

I have been a fan of the axis lock since the first model 710. I have had zero problems with the ones I've owned and used. Never had an accidental closing or failure to lock up. In fairness you will see reports of the omega springs that hold the lock bar in place breaking. Never happened on one of mine but there are too many reports of it to be ignored. The axis lock will still function with just one spring, but I can see that if one breaks, it would be a significant disappointment.

There's almost 15 years of posts on this topic.

I bought a 710 in 1999 right after it was introduced and have bought half a dozen more since then. Some of these have millions of cycles. They still lock up light a cross between a Swiss bank vault and the door on a Mercedes Benz and I've never had a broken spring on any model (710, 705, 950, 960, 940, 805, 806 and several other Axis models). Some of those knives are older than some of the people posting here...no problems, ever.

yah like said by Me2 all of my axis lock knives omega springs have snapped, so i no longer carry or collect axis lock knives. Dont get me wrong its an excellent locking mechanism when it works.

I'll chime in: I've had two omega springs break on my knives. However, I'm thinking it was probably a fluke. Both times the knife still locked up solidly and reliably even with only one spring.

None of mine have failed. It's a good lock, but be prepared to return it to BM if it fails. I don't think they send springs out.

I have 5 axis lock blades and have carried them all and played with them all. None of my springs have broken and they still lock up solidly and strongly.

yep, just another guy here with well over a decade of axis locks and no spring failures, AXIS lock straight up works like a horse.

I like the axis lock too. Never had any problems. The 710 is my favorite from Benchmade and the 940 is nice if you're looking for something lighter.

ALL of them?

You've had some seriously bad luck there bro.

My Benchmade 551 Griptilian's lock is still running hard and smooth, even after thousands of openings and uses, she locks up like a swiss bank vault and she stays there. Great lock, great company, no problems with it at all.

I'm thinking the Osborne 940

Do they have a 943 available? I carried one for over three years, and later on bought a 940--I ended up disliking the 940. I found the reverse tanto tip to be more annoying than useful; I much prefer the modified clip point on the 943, as it makes for a much better slicer.

Ill chime in here... my axis locks have been fine, im no 10 year user, but mine NEVER failed or became loose, etc.

Overall, be prepared for the omega springs to possibly fail, but certainly don't expect it.

10 year AXIS user here. Never had an omega spring break. And I flip my carry knives open and closed incessantly, probably 200 times a day. Nervous habit that replaced cigarettes.

They do send springs out - I have couple of spares from BM.

The axis-lock is my favorite one-hand open/close knife.
I've owned about 5 or 6 different versions with no problems.
