BM Griptilian, CRKT M21, or.....?

I have a M21 I'm looking to trade for a Grip.

I'm not trying to break the rules, just that I handled a grip and got a M21 in a trade, and now I would prefer to get a griptillian than a M21. Especially for a EDC. Maybe the M21 is a better military/field option. But for EDC, Grip all the way.

Benchmade Benchmade Benchmade. The m21 is nice, but the Grip is better. My 556 has taken everything I have thrown at it, including the kitchen sink.

Thanks to all for the input. I agree with AllenC in that I prefer the styling of the M21 better. But, I think I am still leaning towards the Griptilian for the better locking mechanism and higher quality. It also seems as though it would be more comfortable in my pocket. I haven't heard any comments on thickness of either knife.

For a big knife, the M21 is a slim carry.
It's exactly 1/2" wide, not including the pocket clip.

The M21 Is A Great Knife For The Money, but Im Sorry Its Not A Bm... Bm Is One Of The Top Brands Out There, nothing Against Crkt... I Carry A Grip As My Edc,and I Put This Knife Through Hell Everyday For The Past Three Years.i Prefere The Combo Edge,it Can Saw Through Cardboard And Strapping..plus You Can Hardly Tell Its In Your Pocket!!! Awsome Knife..

I'd go with the grip. It feels a bit wider, but its rounded as oppossed to the flat m21 handle. The grip is a much better EDC.

Get a Grip. I just got my first one just for the Axis lock alone, but the rest of the knife is so well designed (and it's offered in so many different configurations) you really can't go wrong. And, they weren't kidding when they called it "Griptilian".;) It feels beefy in your hand, but it's also very light, and the serrated edge is very effective.

The M21-04/14 is being discontinued, [Not so, my mistake; CRKT just lists it in a different part of its website! Confed] so I'd get one of those. I like the 21-14 because it gives me plenty of plain edge with the option to use serrated if I need it. I love Benchmade knives and you'll find the Grip is well made and dependable. The 21, on the other hand, is a bit longer and flicks open in a blink. It does not have AutoLAWKS, though. The best price I've seen on an M21 is on eBay for about $46.

My recommendation, really, would be to get the one that appeals to you the most. I don't much care for the Griptilian's style, but you shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it if you don't like it. Both knives are very good for the money.

Where did you see that the M21-04 is being discontinued? If that is the case, won't it be discounted? In which case I could buy both and solve my dilemna.

I never had a problem with Grips and pockets---my BM 520 is another story---I have several 520's and my EDC has a clip thats just loose enough that its not much of problem either.

Get the Grip---no contest---and you love the Axis lock once you get the hang of it.

another vote for the Grip.

here's my mini-grip 556

Just got a mini griptilian hollow ground a week ago or so. It's my first Benchmade, but FAR from my first "good knife".

I was blown away.

Got a Spyderco Centofante 4 in the mail a couple of days later and have hardly touched it. When I opened the mini-grip, I put it in my pocket and put my small CRKT s-2 in the grip's box. Don't know the other CRKT you're talking about, but I LIKE my new knife (as you've probably deduced, by now)

Another vote for the Grip. I have several, both mini and full size and i dont think you can beat them for the money. Decent handles, superb lock and excellent blade steel all add up to a great knife.

I've also been thinking about a mini-grip, but I' m just not sure it could replace my Spyderco Delica 4. For the money it seems hard to beat the D4, I really like that knife. People do seem to like their Grips though. I may end up getting one sooner or later.

I recently bought a benchmade griptilian and I personally think it is crap. I will never buy another knife made with 154cm steel.

This knife dulled so easily. I got one with a partially serrated blade and the tips of the serrations chipped off the first week of use. The non serrated portion had to be sharpened every few days.

If you are going to buy one in a different kind of steel, and I am not sure that they make one, then it might be ok.

I have been using spyderco knives for years and I have never had any of the tips of the serrations break off and I do not usually have to sharpen on for several months. I would highly recommend buying one of their products.

Also, benchmade does not warranty their knives without an orginal receipt according to their literature. I will never buy another benchmade product again.

I am not familiar with the crkt M21. I have used a crkt product once and I found the blade steel to be too soft, therefore not holding an edge well.

Every knife I've sent to BM was warrantied without an original or even any receipt. They'd probably warrant your griptilian and fix it up just fine if you took the time to send it in with an explanation of its problems.

The checkering on the grip's scale coupled with a tight clip creates a high wear situation.

I've not seen any noticable pocket wear from my Rittergrip.

I carry a mini-Rittergrip clipped to my right front pocket on a daily basis. I have two pairs of cotton docker-style pants that I've worn enough to actually have holes worn through my right rear pockets from my wallet (fat with credit cards but too little money), BUT the right front pocket has no sign of wear from the Rittergrip.
