Hi Guys

I bought a mini Barrage a few weeks ago, my first Axis lock purchase in 2 years. I was giving it a little TLC last night when I noticed a rough patch on the lock bar. It is actually a rough ring that goes around the middle of the axis lock bar. I couldn't get a decent pic of it so I just drew this little diagram

I compared it to my older Grips and they don't have this. I assume this a feature to increase the friction between blade tang and lock bar. Have any of you noticed the same thing?

Thanks
Crispy

All Axis locks end up looking that way when they are used. That is where the lockbar moves across the blade tang. I don't recall ever seeing the barbell with texture though. You'd think if it was smoother it would allow for smoother lockup.

It hasn't done much work in two weeks, so it's not usage. I looks purposefully done.

Any other Barrage owners who can confirm?

Mine doesn't look like that, but it's also a 1.5 year old, Fullsize, work knife... it's super smooth, I never noticed anything like that when it was new tho... I'll check my buddies Mini when I see him tomorrow :)

nope none of my axis locks or axis assists have any texturing....that i can tell either. even my srm axis clones aren't textured? maybe just a manufacturing defect? it should smooth out from use and friction as Reddevil mentioned. unless it stopped working i wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not concerned that it is defective, it has no adverse affect to the lock up. I was just wondering/hoping it was a cool new feature.

Thanks for the input guys.

unless it's pitting, sounds like some crazy pocket lint/broken crackers.... do you carry crackers in your pockets?

I can't find a picture of a cracker but some look like this.

O

LOL, no crackers in my pocket. I definitely is a "man made" texture, it is to regular and uniform to be an accident.

Ive never seen what you describe on any BM axis folder.

Could it be tool marks from a machine of some sorts? Maybe the lathe where they were turned?
