BM Mini Deja Voo thoughts and pics

I just got mine in.Pretty impressive. This is without a doubt, the nicest production folder I've ever owned.I always liked the way a 3.5" to 4" bladed folder felt, because of the handle size, the way they did this knife, they gave you that big knife feel, without it being too big at all,the blade comes in a t3-3/16",the handle does not cramp your fingers.I've got a pretty good size hand. Also, the G-10 is smoother than the Seki Cut Lum beaded micarta. The pocket clip is recessed into the handle, where it is mounted.I have had a few custom knives, where this detail is better 0n this knife here. This has one Ti liner,on the lock side,ss,on the other, that is drilled out for weight.
I've had the Mini Manix,Both Seki Lum Micarta's,big and small,I can say,my preference,I would say this knife to be Way better. The G-10 is contoured round wise,as well as length wise. The backspacer has a rounded styling to it.
Hands down,the nicest Benchmade I've owned.IMO
Definitely worth every penny, and I've had a FEW

By the way, nobody mentioned this bug:

Thumb in the opening hole jams in guard when opening blade to 90 degrees, especially in gloves.:thumbdn: Is there this pretty bad feature on BM 745 or 740 only?

I mentioned it. It doesn't seem like an issue to me because I can flick the knife open with no problem, but it is definitely a design issue. I've never seen this problem on other Benchmades, though.

But Gustavosal, you don't understand, I JUST bought a knife!!!
I don't need to be buying ANOTHER knife, but, after viewing this one
I may have to break that flimsy and oft broken promise I made myself ;)

Thanks for the review and pics, very nicely done!

Ah, Gary, I DO understand. I have a knife coming in soon myself (fixed blade by Rick Wolfe) and I'm thinking seriously of getting the bigger Deja Voo... And maybe you really do need this knife. Who can say till it's in your hands? But I don't want to be an enabler :D

I really don't understand how/when/why "mini" is now used to describe a knife that has an over 3inch blade and is over 4inch closed. Used to be "mini" meant a 3inch or under blade (and 4inch or under closed). I really wish it would have stayed that way and if this was a true mini I would be all over it.

BTW...thanks for the great review and pics. JT

I'm with you JTurner....mini should be small. I have a strong preference for 3" and smaller folders for EDC. If I'm in the woods, something larger is okay...but not for EDC pocket carry.
:)

Well, if New Graham had it in stock, I'm afraid I'd have it in hand ;)
The other place that has it doesn't take Amex, so I guess I'll have
to wait for one to show up on the forsale boards!
I do wish it had the clip at the other end though, as I prefer tip up
carry, just a preference.
Thanks all for your thoughts on this knife! just what I needed :)

It's a bit of topic but I have to say it: Benchmade should have made a little research before naming his knife.
the 745's name comes from the french "Déjà Vu" (which means: already seen).
They could respect the spelling !:D

I think the name works here very well for 745. The thumb hole, the Bob Lum, Spyderco Lum folder....it does feel a bit "Déjà Vu" when Benchmade introduce it. Voo just sounds so chinese

I scored a numbered first production 745 and have had it for a week now. I'm a big BM fan and am sure this is one the best knives they've ever produced.

It's a combination of excellent design mixed with superb fit and finish. They called it a 'Mini', but feels more like a medium-sized knife. Very good ergos.

Only thing I'd like to see different is having a black clip available as an option.

I've yet to see one of the 740 models - at 3.9" for the blade that has to be a big knife!

This is one of the reasons I sold mine. The knife looked nice but they just don't know how to do the Spyderhole correctly. They always bury it partially in the handle and it just doesn't work.

Followup: I ordered a black clip for my 745 from BM and like the looks of it. Makes the knife a little less flashy in the pocket. Just dropped the original clip in the box. I love BM customer support...!

The liners are titanium for the lock side, stainless steel for the opposite liner side. BM claims it provides additional support and that side is drilled to lighten it up a bit.

After having this knife for a couple of weeks and taking it on a camping trip for food prep chores, it's probably the best production knife I've owned as yet.

If you guys don't have one, get one!

I received a 740 and 745 in trade, I loved both of em, but the liner lock was not up to par for Benchmade quality. Too thin for my tastes, not enough clack when opening it.
