My next purchase is going to be a BM Axis lock, and I've narrowed my choices down too these 2 knives. My only other BM is a full sized grip(I do have a 745 on the way ), I did own a mini 556, but the grip wasn't a good fit for my hand, anyways I'm smitten with the axis lock and want another. I've always liked the look of the Mini Ruckus, but I'm wondering how I'll like the handle length, as well as finger notches? I don't have a knife store handy so there is no way for me to try one on before I purchase. I also stumbled upon the HK 14205 and really like the look of this knife..reviews seem to be  I'm just wondering what the differences are, other than the scales, between it and the Griptillian? Any other blades I'm overlooking? keeping blade length between 3"-3.5",more towards the 3.5 mark, with G10 scales.

TIA
Dave

My only real "problem" with the 14205, is that it's got a fairly thin point, broad perhaps, but the stock is very thin there. It doesn't give me much confidence. I wonder if the Mini-Ruckus is a little more stout.

I have the full size Rukus, its a great knife. Don't know about the smaller one.

But what about the BM 710? One of the best folders out there...

A 73x would almost fit the bill, 3.6" blade, G10 handle. They are discontinued, but they can be found on the sale forums, or ebay every now and then.

If you can do without G10 :
520 3.42" blade. Has Aluminum handles
94x 3.4" or so blade, Has Aluminum handles

The 710 D2 would be a nice choice, BUT it exceeds his blade length limit.

The Benchmade HK 14205 alternates with my large micarta Classic Sebenza as my EDC. I owned a Mini Ruckus, and I preferred the 14205 for comfort in the hand.

I owned a Mini Ruckus but it was just a little thick for an EDC and I traded it off. Excellent knife but just too thick for me. Also, the finger notches made work fine in the basic saber grip but other grips did not feel near as comfortable and ergonomic. I am expecting UPS to deliver my 14205 today. I think G10 is the best handle material and I like thin in my EDC but it is balance between thin for comfort in carry and in use. I really miss the Mini AFCK.

I've got a mini-Rukus and I used it for EDC all the time (before I got my lefty Emerson Commander, anyway). I've got huge hands and the handle is still plenty big enough for me. Whether you like the overall shape is really up to you- it works great for me but I can see how it'd turn some folks off. RKH is right about the handle's shape- it's pretty bulky and square in cross-section so it's not gonna lay as flat in your pocket as a 14205 will. On the plus side, the way the pocket clip is designed makes it ride REALLY low in the pocket, which makes it more comfortable to carry IMO.

Personally, as much as I like my mini-Rukus I'd have to go with the 14205 as the superior EDC knife.

but at 4" it's a bit long for me. Local laws here allow a 4" blade, I just don't want to push the envelope, plus I really don't need a 4" blade. I'm an Electrician so my knife needs just entail cutting tapes, boxes, ect. I leave cable stripping to a razor blade as I'd be constantly sharpening.
Anyways right now the Ruckus and 14205 are the only BM's catching my eye right now, and I'm strongly leaning toward the 14205.

Thanks
Dave
