As many of you have heard, Benchmade is pulling ALL of their knives from distributors. That means if you ain't millitary, YOU'RE not gonna be able to get one of their autos, and you're NOT going to be able to buy any properly priced BM's. I WILL NOT PAY MSRP for ANY knife. That's not right. Well, I wanna protest this. I'm not gonna buy any Bm's until they change this. I say all us knife people come together and do something about it. Who else is with me? Any ideas of how to go about doing something? Thanks

personally, i think this is a good thing. bm is ready to go to the next level in knifemaking. there knives are getting better and better every year. supplying only through dealers will increase their brand image and longevity in the marketplace.

yes, it sucks that we will have to pay more for a good knife, but i do not mind.

it is ok if i am in the minority here. :)

BM pulling from a large number online dealers effectively ends my purchasing of their wares. I do not buy knives from shops, there aren't any here.

I stopped buying their products when they announced the Vex. I don't care how (or if) they sell their knives.

Please post this around-speak to all knife people you know about this thread! I say we get a list of us people who will admit to bm that we won't buy anymore of their knives if they do this!!!

Although I would like to say I wont buy anything for MSRP from BM. They still make what I think is the best lock on the market. And I know there 154cm like the back of my hand. Im interested to see how it plays out. My local shop already charges MSRP for all of the kershaw, BM and spyderco that they have. Also an hour+ away if im in a hurry. I will keep reading on this! I try to avoid that damn store like the plague. Besides the fact that they have ridiculous amounts of discontinued BM, K-shaw and spyderco knives.. I mean from the AFCK, Lil Temp, avalanche days... If ya know what I mean..
Sorry im getting off topic.. IM very tired.. You get the point..

Btw, I did not vote.. I am in between vote 1 and 2.. What do you propose we can do about this if the prices really do sky rocket.. Should we email Les De Asis?
Matt

I don't think BM will do to well if they proceed. People will buy other knives. They will either get the message or become an entirely niche market knife company (microtech?).

If they follow through with this, I won't be buying any more of their products. I buy most of my knives online, as there isn't a knife store nearby. No problem, more Spydercos, Kershaws and customs for me.

At the BM forum, they're saying BM is producing at capacity due to military and rebranding contracts. As such, they can raise prices because they can't sell more than they are already. BM seems to have a very different idea of the elasticity of demand for their products than I do. This is a bad thing for them, because I am one of those people buying their stuff. Considering the fact that the economy is... the economy, and that we have a new president and some talk of military cuts, they are banking on contracts and capacity that I doubt will sustain. Mom & pop aren't selling any BMs at MSRP already, and if Harley or the Army says 'no thanks' they will need their distributors back.

I say we get a mob and march down to BM. Or maybe a petition?

a petition is what i'm thinking-if we can get enough people to send in letters to them stating that if they pull from distributors, we won't buy ANY of their products until it's changed...i think that that would be a very effective thing to do-as long as we can get enough people to send in the letters

OOH,OOH-we all mail the letters in at the same time???anyone else liking my ideas?

If they want to be more upscale they need to improve the quality control. The knives are manufactured well but the assembly is hit or miss. Half of the knives i bought in the last year had to be take apart on arrival, one was missing the stop pin. That being said i will pay MSRP for the 760 cpm m4 Lum.Their m4 is a great steel.

DAMN I voted for the wrong choice! I meant to vote against BM.
My 0.02 - I dont care for BM if they remove their knives from dealers. They have good designs and quality but I'm not paying MSRP for one of their knives. There are many other knives from other companies that can satisfy my needs.
