Anybody know how to go about sharpening the false edge on the BM710? Will Benchmade do it for me?
I don't think I have the confidence to do this myself out of fear of damaging the blade. Has anyone done this on their 710?
I highly doubt that Benchmade would be willing to, for legal reasons, if nothing else. If you post your location, someone may be able to suggest a custom maker in your area who would be willing to do the modification for little or no cost.
Some time ago, another member did exactly what you want, and had great results. If I can remember who, I'll post it for you, hopefully he will see this thread and chime in...
Why would you want to put an exposed sharp edge on a folder? I have sharpened false edges on fixed and on balisongs and it can be done carefully (don't want scratches) with different flat stones. Start with coarse to remove steel alternating strokes and work up to fine. If you do this keep the thing in a belt sheath cause you don't want a sharp edge exposed in your pocket just waiting for your little fingers to reach in.
