After touring the Benchmade factory, which I was very impressed with the organization of their operation, we have sat down in the meeting room and came up with the limited edition for us and now we are already planing the next one, will are going to try to do about 4 to 5 special knives each year, The BM710 with CPM M4 steel was our choice for this time, the BM710D2 is our top seller in the Benchmade line with selling about 500 pieces this year, so with that in mind and adding the CPM M4 Steel with a different handle we think the will be a good start for our Special Limited edition, we will know by Monday or Tuesday on the handle, depending on the availablity. The Price will be a little more than the BM710D2, not sure but the price should come in around $129.95 to $139.95.

well i'm getting one!

That's the exact email I just got back from Roger too and I'm on the list now! :D :D :D The fun thing too is these may have variations as they evolve so there my be short windows to grab an especially rare model during the evolution too such as short run handle material or color or what have you.

I hope this is going to be in micarta! My dream knife is a 710 with micarta. So this may be a dream come true!

I own several BM's in M2, and they sharpen better than almost every knife I own. They take a phenomenal edge, virtually no burring, and only require an occasional touch-up on the sharpmaker to keep them razor sharp. I'd be willing to bet CPM M4 is going to be just as easy to sharpen and maintain as M2.

That's what I'm thinking.

It may take more time to get the edge, but none of the silly super-burr stuff to deal with and make sharpening annoying. After the initial edge is formed, edge maintainance should hopefully be a moments activity.

I'm glad I am getting another 710 in non stainless! No one seems to know yet if it will be coated or not. Doesn't really make a difference to me.

lulz the salespeople flat out lied to you. what a shocker D:

nope, BM says if a knife is for non north american dealers only in the knife description as per:

http://www.benchmade.com/products/product_detail.aspx?model=806-701

I wouldn't be too surprised if they were inaccurate, but I wouldn't be surprised if the were telling the truth either. The description doesn't say either way so that isn't really conclusive. This is the exact company (We Be Knives) who had the exclusive design on the link you provided. They're not some hole-in-the-wall place. I know they do get deals with Benchmade just like the exclusive one, so again I wouldn't be too surprised if it was in Europe only. It looks like I was wrong though, the handle isn't damascus and this is definitely the one I saw.

They did tell me it was $850 and the link says it's $800 MSRP. But then again, these guys sell above MSRP on quite a few of the knives which is why I could never buy from them.

SOLD! if I can get in on one in time. Love to try out this steel.
I'm curious about the target hardness, though. I hope it's at least 61 or 62 on the low end. IIRC, toughness should be similar to D2 or M2, with something like a 100% increase in wear resistance. Probably won't be much fun to sharpen.

you were lied to indeed. The company I work for here in Oregon got 6 of them. It was a run of 195 not 50.

I didn't see this post. Wow, I can't believe those guys would stoop so low. I'd never buy from them anyway. There are a couple of stores that I go to where the guys are really knowledgeable and honest. TAD Gear's one of them.
