Finally (after only three days shipping to Alaska!), got my first real knife in the mail the other day from gpknives.com. Great service and prices there!

Anyway, I anticipated I would get a "production run" knife in the 154CM thinking I got my order in late. So when I opened up the box I was suprised to see a "pre-production" BM730S Elishewitz ARES folder! I got #0038 of #1000. It's the 50/50 serrated blade in ATS-34 ("tumbled" matte finish). At first I did'nt think I wanted the pp-knife, but now I'm kinda glad. The "engraved" numbers serve as a serial # to identify it from any others incase it were to be lost or stolen. Plus I guess it gives it a certain degree of exclusitivity huh?

I know this knife has probably had more than it's share of attention here lately but I could'nt resist one more thread on the BM730S. This knife wreeks of quality! The action is buttery smooth, the axis lock is very ergonomic and locks up solid as a rock! The bolstered G-10 scales feel better in my hand than the standard flat scales. It rides deep in the pocket for that concealed "deep cover" carry. Yeah, I'm a "black gun/black knife kinda guy too, but I gotta say....the BM730 colored scales are growing on me real quick! All my buds think its pretty cool too. Now all I need is some Senrty Solutions products and a good sharpener huh!

The Elishwitz designed BM730 ARES Axis-lock....."One sweet folder"!

Anyone else got "pre-production" numbered BM730's?? Who's got the lowest number??

P.S. Still looking to buy a good sharpener. Anyone have any good links that display photos and info on knife sharpeners like the 204 (by Spyderco I think??) and others?? All the "knife pages" I've seen only show cutlery. Are there any that show the sharpeners themselves??

Welcome to the forums. I don't own a 730 yet. I will buy one as soon as they are available in plainedge. Looks like a very promising knife. How are the ergonomics? How about fit and finish?

730SBT present! The rumors that the production models are available this spring are false. They are here now! Grand Prairie knives has them. Anyways, Five O, the production version I got is still ATS-34, not 154CM. I'm not sure when the switch will be made. Anyways, I totally agree with you, the axis-lock is so smooth it's even smoother than my 710SBT. I love the ergonomics of it as well. It fits my hand real good and the finish of the G10 is better than most of my Benchmades.

By the way Five O, are you the same one on Glocktalk who worships the Glock 30? Anyways, I have the Sharpmaker 204 and like many others here, I have to say it is one of the best sharpeners out there. Here's a link to a pic of the Spyderco Sharpmaker: http://www.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/spyderc/sharp.html

Of course I'll have to enclose a pic with this post:

I have PP #966. The BM 730 Ares has become my favorite large folder. Until I get a Sebenza this will probably be my slickest big folder.

Just curious, but how thick is the BM 730. I have the BM 720 which I love however, it seems a little thick
Thanks,

Ross

Now that the production models are here, are they available in plain edge?

#429 here, thanks to Senator. Really love this one....I was tempted too much but still truly want one in plain blade. Still haven't cycled it into regular duty though. Still love my 710 toooo much. Lotsa great points on the 730 though...just not my daily carry yet. Btw the pics listed in previous post show the color on my monitor as quite 'red' as opposed to mine that is a distinct purple color in the flesh.

Nightglock,
Yep, thats me from GT.... "Gottahava30"!

RT,
The 730 seems to be about the same or just a little thinner than the 720. The 730 also feels just a little heavier in the hand too, but I prefere the 730 's feel. Kinda like that sweet feel of a GLOCK 30 (.45Auto) instead of a singlestack 1911 (ya know what I mean Nightglock??). I like the heavier "rock solid" feel of this knife. Feels like a true custom Elishewitz (atleast if I could imagine what one felt like!).

Hey Five-0! It's great to have a fellow G30 brother here. If you love knives you'll love this forum.

I knew it was you Five O. I was on Glocktalk a while back, but I switched to AR15.com when I got my Bushmaster AK Shorty and now I'm into knives! I have shot a G30 and love it, but I live in Maryland and can't carry concealed. If I were able to, the 30 would be the one (gotta have 30). Yes it does have a solid feel, but not quite really a custom Elishewitz. Of course you guys will expect another pic so here goes:
My Elishewitz Diablo #21 out of 25, sorry guys it's all sold out at Knifeart, no mas Diablo. Anyways FiveO, maybe you can create a chant here, gotta have BM730.

Mi.Mike, you can get one here: http://www.gpknives.com
Since the production models are out, you can get them plain edge, half serrated, satin or BT2 coated. So far I've only heard of them with ATS-34 blades. The 2000 Benchmade catalog says they come in 154CM, but in fact, it has a pic of one that says ATS-34. Go figure huh?

NightGlock,
It's cool how great minds think alike! I bought myself a Bushmaster Shorty (wo/AK brake) this past Christmas! The Bushmaster is an awesome shooter and goes great with my GLOCK 30 at the range, or out plinking and hunting (ofcourse the GLOCK is my primary CCW, while a .454Casull is my "trail gun"). This new BM730 Elishewitz folder fits right into that catagory of "quality bang for the buck", like the GLOCK and the Bushmaster.

Anyone look'in to buy this sweet rig needs to check-out gpknives.com. They've got great service and even better prices. To be fair though, I'm sure there are lots of dealers floating around here, so shop!

NightGlock...You like my new signature block for the Bladeforums??

The Bushmaster is a quality shooter and fits right in with the likes of my GLOCK 30 and this new BM730S Elishewitz folder. All of them seem to be the "best bang for the buck" when it comes to filling their respectable niches...don't you agree??

Your Elishewitz Diablo is one sweet rig! She must be nice to be able to own something like that!

I`ve got four 730`s. 2 serated edges and 2 plain edges. The plain edges are stamped cm154 even though they are preproduction runs. Love these knives. Only problem one of the plain edges has bad grind lines. Of course this doesn`t take away from the purpose of the knife. Just a little disappointed, that`s all.

Sweet pics, Nightglock! Thanks for taking the time

. Now I'm tempted to take a closer look at the BM730..it's something I'd just have to hold in my hand before purchasing it. That, and I'd wait for the plain edge.

Somewhere along the line, Benchmade will realize that they should introduce the plain edged version first! I'd wager a guess that over half of the people who buy a recently released Benchmade knife with a combo-edge only buy it because they gotta have the knife!!!

I'm guilty of the above with a serrated 710
