BM's Ritter Mini Griptilian worth the $ over plain 552?

i would buy another ritter mini grip in a heartbeat its my fav EDC hands down... and the full flat grind and s30v are WIN

edit btw i have zero problems with the stock grips.... changing the grips voids out the warranty if im not mistaken

my humble opinion on the grips and the Ritter version is that, while no doubt a very good knife, I think it sort of defeats the purpose of the grip. The grip is so legendary primarily because it brought the axis lock, along with some other features, like 440C steel (back then) and bilateral steel liners, to the masses by offering it around $50.

And I think the formula still works today. Nonetheless, there's is just so much competition in the price range of the rittergrip--most notably the Paramillie 2, which I think would just murder it--it's got a great lock, also S30V steel (in a better blade shape in my humble opinion), and better ergonomics--for slightly less than the rittergrip.

So,I guess what I'm saying is, the grip really only makes sense when it's an entry level knife--in my opinion, that is. 154CM is a fine steel anyway, this isn't like a 440A versus S30V problem.

OP Here...

After handling the Mini Grips, I didin't like the handle/grip at all so I went with a few other choices instead.

Spyderco Sage 1, BM940, Buck Vantage Pro, Kershaw Leek, OD-1 and R.A.M. all felt better in my hand and are now in my new collection. ;)

The RAM would have been my choice in that range too. It's the first knife that I felt beat the minigrip in its own price range.

I like the Griptilians' handles and welcome the option of different blade steels and blade profiles. I have had Griptlians in 440C, 154CM, D2, M2HS, M390, CPM-M4 and S30V.

The Mini Grip is the knife that I chose to carry over "higher end" folders like the Sebenza and XM18.
I owned a Paramilitary for a short time but didn't like it. The Para 2 doesn't interest me at all.

So, opinons differ. That's why there are so many different types of folding pocket knife.

So instead of buying one Grip you bought six other knives!

Congratulations -- but yikes!

The Ritter grip is a slicer, true and true. I have some wonderful knives, but that is with me at all times in the woods. I got a yellow one. Awesome color. Doug is a good guy to support as well.

So, let me guess...you will not be spending another 100-something dollars to put Wilkins scales on your Grips??? :D  :D (I have never been able to rationalize that one myself, no matter now nice the Wilkins scales are - and they really are...)

The wilkins scales are very well made , but I sold mine because they just dont feel as good in the hand as the stock scales !!! The griptilian scales make one of the most comfortable knives on the market if you can get past the plasticy feel !!!

Glad to hear all the good reviews. I had to RMA my first one and am waiting on the replacement. I didn't get to use it yet, but it felt pretty solid and comfortable.
