BN, BT & Seal 2001 questions

I'm curious. I think I heard that the BN and the SEAL 2001 are basically the same knife, the only differences being a "SEAL 2001" stamp on the blade and serrations. Is that true?

Regarding the BT, does it have the same tip/primary edge shape as the SEAL 2001?

BTW, I saw an older Strider Tanto fixed blade knife at a knife show today. It wasn't tiger striped, and the tip/primary edge looked pretty bad, the result of a few bad sharpening sessions. The guy wanted $450 for it...

Hello Lynn
The BN with serrated spine and the SEAL 2001 are the same thing.
BN is unmarked
The tanto is not the same.

Thanks Matt D

I will be getting some of the next run Stride does.

"BN is unmarked"

What do you mean by "unmarked"?

"The tanto is not the same."

Not the same as what?

"I will be getting some of the next run Stride does."

I was afraid you'd say that! I hope that run is a ways off. I won't be able to afford any new Striders for awhile.

I really like my little DB. So does my wife, believe it or not. After I sharpened it, I handed it to her the other day. She immediately started acting like she was poking somebody in the face &/or eyes with it. She was instinctively going for the CPU! Mick would've been proud of her!

Unmarked means that it does not say SEAL 2001.

The edge geometry on the front of the BT and the BN are destinctly different, therefore not the same.

If you go to www.tadgear.com and look at the striders they say that the BN-SS is,

"THE EXACT MODEL AS THE "SEAL 2001" BUT WITHOUT THE COPYRIGHTED "SEAL 2001 STAMP" ON BLADE TANG

THE BN MODEL IS $300 LESS THAN THE SEAL 2001

BLADE TYPE = APPROX. 7" TANTO ATS-34 WITH SPINE SERRATIONS AND TIGER STRIPE FINISH"

That might have been where you heard it?

L.O. I own both BN and BT, the BN has a blade a little longer and wider maybe 3/4 in longer 1/4 inch wider. The handle is longer too, much the same way an MT-L is a bigger proportioned model of the MT. The BN is a bigger overall length width and handle length and width than the BT. The point on the BN is more aggressive and tends to lean out much farther, more like a penetrator tip, than the BT. I am no expert on knife terms but thats the best way to describe it. If you check some pics I think you'll see what we mean, I use both on duty, and if you can get away with hiding it on your gear or bag, the BN size difference makes a big difference IMHO.
anyway best of luck deciding, dont think to hard though, you'll prob end up with both anyway.

That's a BIG selling point with me. I really like the tip/primary edge shape on my little DB, more than the GB for example. The tip/primary edge on the BN looks similar to the one on my DB.

panzer075, I'm not really in the market for either the BT or the BN, but if I were, I'd be going for the BN, especially after your post.

Of course, it seems like every time I say I'm not serious about a Strider, I wind up getting it. Mean, terrible people like you, KnifeBomber and Matt D just seem to go out of your way to make it hard for me NOT to buy Striders. It's kind of like going to an AA meeting, the day after you quit drinking, in liquor store.

I think I need to go back to the audio & hi-fi forums VERY soon...

The BN is next on my want list. I personally plan to one day own one of every Strider tanto design out there. Then I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay them off. Oh yeah, so far I've got: EBT, 2 GB's, BT, WB and a DB and a second DB on the way (new grind.) I'm just getting started. :D

Zach, you got me! Let me rephrase:

"Mean, terrible people like you, KnifeBomber, ZACH CHALMERS and Matt D just seem to go out of your way to make it hard for me NOT to buy Striders."
