BNN / RAT Jungle Survival TV Show

Like most Europeans they seem to be much more at ease when traveling outside their comfort zone than Americans do. It's sort of a "whatever happens, happens" type attitude compared to us Americans wanting everything to be perfectly organized and on time.

Why do you think that is?

The North Americans I've met have been open, honest, confident and  people. But then, I met them outside of the North Americas (I would love to go to America, to do some fishing of course!)

Do you think all that multiculturalism we're fed in Europe has a hand in it? Or maybe that the European people have a colonial heritage in which to draw from?

These are very complicated questions, to which I don't have a straight answer to.

Hell they look kinda scary to me,I felt completely safe with Percy and luisa but those guys I dont know.I sure wouldnt bring along my best sheep is alls Im sayn:D

We don't have service/draft anymore. It's a volunteer army.

I think these guys were just scared shitless.....so they listened to the boss.......:D

Seriously, as open minded as we can be, we're also very VERY narrow minded in a lot of things. I've no explanation too.

I have watched the show localy (broadcast) an I liked it! (it brought me to this thread)
Part of the try before you die show is that the participants are semi-famous and that they have too play act their fears somewhat.
what the heck is the story behind that advertisement at the beginning?
It is a ad. for that channel. They had a show before were someone could win a kidney transplant. At the end of the show they caused some shock saying it was all fake and that they did it to give attention to a shortage in organ donors.

Were these Dutch blokes well over 6ft tall?
The reason why I ask is because I went to Amsterdam to play a gig and I've never felt so short in my life, even the women were a good bit taller than me and I'm 5'9''.
The Dutch are indeed the tallest population. The average of men is just over six feet: Good food, central heating and a distribution of wealth are the main reasons.

Appreciate the answers. Good food and central heating will do it every time ;)

Makes sense to me: a chicken in every pot and a 4 ton central heating and air unit in every free mansion to those who can't afford it....and we all get taller :D

Yeah It is amazing what a bit of extra wealth can do. (it is disturbing how certain quotes get stuck in your head :-). On the other hand the average Joe in Holland pays 30 to 50 % income tax (thats speeding tickets excluded :-) and $6,50 for a gallon petrol..

I have looked something up: The average American soldier was 3 inch taller than the average Dutch Joe (Jan) in 1945 when they liberated our Country from the Germans (btw thanks again) now the length is the other way around.

How do explain the smell those guys had? They were funky and not James Brown type of funk!
No idea :It is a long flight across the Atlantic or maybe it was the Testosterone of being on a survival.

This is funny.
I know the cameraman. Francois... We used to work for the same company..
Now he IS a big guy, even for Dutch standards..
I know Dennis too, as I did the lighting design for another BNN program he co-hosted.. It was called spuiten en slikken (squirting and swallowing) and demonstrated everything there is to know about sex and drugs..
a small world indeed..

I just acquired a RC-4, and wanted to check this place out a bit.
What a coïncendence..

Have a Nice Day!!

Francois is a wild man....that's all I need to say ;)

Just thought I'd let those know who are interested, I picked up the new issue of TK and there was an article about this trip with a review of some of the knives they took along for testing. Also a few pics of Mike and the one and only bearthedog .

For my American friends here, you missed the best show BNN had. Flip through the episode links on the Try Before You Die web site and watch the 'challenge' the guy did on doing a photo shoot for Playboy Magazine. It's awful but somehow I struggled through it and watched it all....a few times.:) Mike

btw, I'd travel anywhere with that Dutch crew. I believe they could handle anything tossed at them. Mike
