Boating, Water Knife Suggestions?

Get a David Boye Cobalt folder. They cut even when they feel dull!! Good Luck! Kevin :D

Growing up i had several "stainless steel" knives that rusted up like a 1095 steel. Had a dive knife that turned into a throwing knife because I could not get it wet... go figure.

Alas, the mission and Boye are a bit out of my price range. How is the H-1 at holding an edge.

Hey there, I kayak fish every day and always carry two spydercos. Pacific salt serrated, and a dragonfly salt. I absolutely love both of them, but to answer your question, the edge holding of the plain edge is quite poor. Interestingly enough, because of the way h1 is hardened during the grinding process, the serrated salts are very hard and have excellent edge retention...arguably better than any other steel spyderco uses. So if you want one of the best serrated knives available that will never rust, get a se salt! But don't pe scared of the pe if that's what you like. What makes it dull quickly also makes it sharpen quickly. Mine gets a lot of use and I touch it up every couple of days on the sharpmaker and it literally takes me 20-30 seconds! Get whichever u like...all of the salts are awesome!

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the Spyderco H1 blades yet. :D

spyderco aqua salt if you're looking for a fixed blade. discontinued but you can still find them out there. I have a yellow frn fully serrated and it's a great knife.

The David Boye fixed blade cobalt knives are unique and will never rust. He makes them in about fours sizes too although on his own web site he only offers the 4 inch blade. I have a three inch and it's a nice EDC around or in salt water.

I was all ready to order a spyderco and *BaM* somebody put a set of esee knives on the exchange and well, I had to buy them. Have to wait a while now. Thanks everybody for the info! It seems my wife is really trying to push me back into fishing so I will probably need several wet knives. It is all her fault.
