Bob Dozier folders - how good?

Very nice! I have an identical one and I envy the clip on yours because it eliminates those sharp edges. I have 4 of Bob's folders and the ONLY gripe I have is the way the little birds beak irritates my hand when I go in and out of my pocket for other items. What I've done is to polish that radius down much smoother. Other than that, what's not to love?
By the way, one of my absolutely favorite field folders is made by Mike Skellern from down your way. Burger makes a similar one now with some minor differences.

Yes the clip was a nice bonus. The standard clip could be smoother and more low profile, it stands quite high off the scale, which isnt necessary. I dont know why people dont just opt for the standard 'Benchmade clip' design. It actually cant be improved on - it just works!

I agree with the bird's beak - the corners of the liners are quite sharp. I never keep anything else in my knife pocket though. It is reserved for knives only! I am also investigating a nice leather belt sheath for this knife, it just seems suited to one.

This is a clip I made for a Dozier. The owner wanted a low rider that also filled the space inletted into the handle.

Yes sir, I believe I know the owner of that knife. You made the clip on this knife too, which is now in my possession... small world! :)

Here is it is easier to see the quality of the westinghouse micarta compared with the regular stuff.

Now I may just be a dumb knifemaking hobbyist. But to me that just looks like a better polishing job on the Westinghouse. I bet that if you polish that "regular" micarta up more it'll give you a very nice shine as well. But then again...it'll also lose a lot of it's grip.

Which of the Dozier folders are thin/compact enough to be carried in the pocket for EDC?

I have a small clipless folding hunter with green jigged bone scales and a cocobolo spacer that's very flat and is as good as it gets for pocket carry from Bob.

I must admit, I have not had any experience with polishing micarta. I'm not even sure what to use (Flitz?) Perhaps someone could chime in who knows about such things.

Personally I use micromesh. Which is a high grade polishing cloth.

it comes up to 15000 grit. Or you could use a buffer or some (very) high grit sandpaper.

I promise I'm not trying to keep this thread going forever but I was intrigued by the Westinghouse micarta deal and did a little research into it. George Westinghouse is a famous American engineer who invented the stuff, along with a number of other patents, many involving electricity (he was a champion of AC current which was a proven performer and ended up being used in the electric chair, otherwise known as Old Sparky.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Westinghouse

Anyway, it seems that his company invented micarta, which was then used in a number of applications, including pool cues and kitchen counter tops. Here's a cool ad from the 50s talking up its qualities.

I thought it was Elvis.
If Dozier makes a Tanto folder, it will be my LAST folder.
