KS-7 from Vintage Knives

I heart a lot about exceptional D2 heat treatment by Dozier and finally
found knife with right size for me - KS-7:

5" x 1 1/16" x 13/64" 9.20 oz with quite long handle

Initial sharpness 70gramm on my thread test - pretty good but not the best (which is 60 by Currahe, Military and Matsuda).

Very well done sheath, best from what I saw before.

Here it is with Caldwell 1-6 amd Buck 110 - all tan-like "ecological" color which I like a lot. And you may see size in comparison with 110.

Here it is with another great hunter.

And here it is with bulat knife - many considers D2 being prety close to bulat...

Thanks, Vassili.

Vassili,
Where's your Goddard FFD2 ? :D
Nice Dozier. If it's too dull for you, send it to me...I'll make a nice home for it.

I hope they will start selling blades without handle, sheath etc. Otherwise FF is too expensive.

Thanks, Vassili.

Vassili, as usual, pictures are excellent. Good luck with your Dozier. They look pretty good for workhorse type knives IMO. They will outlast owners in many cases. I used to try to polish my D2 knives up too much when sharpening them but have learned to work them where they work best, which is typically no more than 800 grit. Anyway, thanks for the pictures and sharpness test. Joe

congras on your new Dozier I like the NCM scales! I only have one of his blades A buffalo river hunter and I really like it BOB makes a nice blade.

I've had a Wilderness Knife for a while, and I did change the edge a bit to get better slicing. The knife is designed for heavier duty than Bob's true hunters. This is more of an all-purpose camp knife.

Your pictures almost look better than mine in real life! :D

I am getting the stock black micarta handle version. Anyone else have different handles besides nozh2002? I was going to go for the wood burl handles, but decided to just stick with micarta for a user.

Thanks, you may just put your knife on leather and lighten from different angles...

I will probably resharpen it eventually. But it hard to call it heavy-duty, I think Dizier make his best, but working from early 1960-th providing his knives as a skinning tools for local hunters in central Louisiana I guess he develop pattern to make excellent cutting knives not chopping or "tactical", "mid range strategic" knives. This is what I value most, for me it is like large cutting knife, but it certainly able to do light chopping. I already found long handle very comfortable for this - tt adds 1 1/4" to length if you hold it near end.

Thanks, Vassili.

I found the handle big enough, but not by that much. Gripping it with my index finger in the choil, I only have about a half inch from my little finger to the butt.

I recently got my first Dozier (a Gentleman's knife) and was not , at first, impressed with it's sharpness- more scraping than shaving. Ever since then I've been impressed every time I use it.

When it comes to real world cutting (as opposed to tests of how sharp it is) it's the best cutting knife I own- never mind that many are theoretically much sharper. I am definitely going to try coarser edges on some of my other knives, but I have really been impressed with the Dozier's cutting ability. Good ergos too.

Vassili, I'm am always amazed by the beauty of your choices when it comes to selecting the knives you buy. And you photography always does full justice to the blades.
Thanks for sharing.

I have no idea what this knife costs, nor have I ever held one in my hand, but it seems like a good one, and the photos are tops. It looks like a user, not a collector. As such, it is meant to be taken afield, used, perhaps abused, dulled, sharpened, rusted, polished, broken, lost and replaced. With this in mind, any evaluation must be with regard to value and because it does not exist in a vacuum other knives on the market of the same shape and steel must be considered. Since this forum is General Knife Discussion, I have to ask if this knife shines so brightly when making value comparisons, with, for instance, a similar Bark River which might sell for 1/4 or 1/3 the cost yet perform equally. (Vassili, if this this thread is only about photography I apologize for the hijack.)

Bark River is around twice cheaper or less for same size, but Dozier is semi-custom or custom and Bark River is production knives. So it will not be fair to compare this two.

Thanks, Vassili.
