I posted in an earlier post about picking one of these fine folders up. This is a monster of a folder and definately fits the bill for MEGA!! The blade is 4.25" X .200" and tapers from the tang to the point in such a way as to retain strength but make a great slicer. Of course the steel is D2 as only Bob Dozier can do it. The handles are .200" thick, flat, and titanium. The whole thing weighs in at 9.0 ounces. but really rides well due to the flatness of it.

My question concerns the flat area on the handle slabs. I would like to have something done with that area. I thought about some checkering as I've seen this done on other knives with outstanding results. So give me some suggestions.

I would check out Matt Cucceria. I really like some of the stuff he does on Sebbies and his own folders as far as handle treatments go. Some real nice patterns and coloring going on.

By the way I like that knife a lot. It's a tough looking knife. I would leave it alone.

flat Ti like that begs for a good checkering/pattern job. real nice knife, i think you'll like it even better after it's customized.

BTW that really is a great knife. I got the chance to play with one a bit at the ECCKS and really liked it. Hopefully I will be able to get one for myself. a simple flat Ti scale is like a blank canvas and just screams for some sort of decoration to make it complete. even something as simple as some holes drilled through make a difference if done right.

You might check out Dirk Potgieter's artistic stuff too. He has done some pretty cool stuff on some other Dozier designed knives I've seen. In fact everything he does is quite artistic and well done. For a small fee and some shipping I'm sure he'd love to doll up your Dozier.

He has a forum here http://www.knifeforums.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB51 where he can be reached. I'm one of the moderators there so I'm fairly confident he'd be happy to help you out.

Here is a pic of a Kabar Dozier Thorn he did up pretty nice. When I first saw this all I could say was WOW!

Wow, lots of great ideas, and pics! Does anyone have a picture of any checkering or know who offers it? In the end Larry, you may be right. :D  :)

I don't have any suggestions about pimping that folder up, but I've gotta say WOW! That is one seriously capable looking folder and by Dozier too. You are one fortunate individual to be getting that baby.

I think a simple milled pattern would be amazing...you'd have to ask around to see who could do it though...

Maybe just one circle and a few parallel lines.

and leave some serious hotspots if you use it much.

Grooving would be cool, so would the Fizz treatment.

Simple but tasteful! Thanks neetones I could probably send it back to the Dozier shop and get something like that done and have the grooved part anodized while I was at it. I've also sent an email to Matt C. about doing some fizz treatment to the handles.

Keep those suggestions coming folks.....I surely appreciate it!! :D :D :D

how does this knife lock up? lockback.....frame lock?

also, what is the price and wait time for this?

Well since you asked for suggestions...don't really know how you'd do this, but I guess brainstorming is ok here. I used to have a Belgian draft mare, so the knife's name of "Workhorse" evokes some specific images for me like hames, singletrees, collars, blinders, traces, plowshares, etc. Just a thought. :) Beautiful work by Bob Dozier as usual. I really like neetones design suggestion too.

Personally, I would not toy with the handle. Keep the knife as Bob Dozier intended it to be. If that is a true lanyard hole, add your personal touch there. Just my two cents. By the way, what a great knife you have.

Basically the knife is a frame lock, although with some modifications. The actual lock is called the Tab-Lock which works just like a frame lock from a user viewpoint. Only with the tab lock the titanium scal acts as the lock bar and stop pin. It seemed to work extremely well on the knives that I played with, but unfortuanetley I have no real experience with it in use. :( I am sure it works real well though as I haven't heard anything bad about it yet.

If you want to pik one up you will need to get all of your Benjamins in a row waiting, and find one that is available. Bob is no longer takin orders for folders. Just look at dealers, the sale forums, and shows and keep your eyes open.

I'd add some simple vertical or slightly diagonal grooves to the front where your hand grips it, and the back where your pinky grips. Leave the center alone, or perhaps some horizontal latitudenal groves. Then flame broil it.
