I made a kit (pictures to come) based on the discussions in this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=662308 and others.

I brought it to a pond today and had, in just a few casts, two bluegill that would have been DAMNED good eating. The entrails would have let me set drop lines at a stream nearby. I could have kept fishing - but I proved my point and got a chance to cast with it.

It was a TON of fun!

Good deal TF !! I usually take mine out and use my water bottle for fishing. I've had pretty good success, with blueglls.. I was trying for a nice bass a few weeks ago, but no dice..

Good to hear you had success with your fishing kit. Nice to know there are people who practice with their kit before we actually need to use them!

Nice work Talfuchre!

When I try mine out though it will have to be covertly; it's illegal in the UK :(

@akabu - useful looking tubes but Talfuchre is right. Plus I hate places that think $65 is an appropriate minimum shipping to the UK. Talk about money-grabbing!

UK practice - No hook spinner,Jig , Fly or live bait see how many hits ;)
ordered one to work on it, thinking wide- long "Ranger Band" on top of 550 cord.

Talfuchre,

After your other thread, i started playing with a Tube Vault I had lying around. It was pretty quick and easy to come up with a decent package. As a bonus, this thing is loads of fun to send sailing across my office (with no hook, of course). :D

it may be hard to find a heavy duty tough version. but did you look into those tubes that hold your toothbrush for travelling purposes?

Yeah, I used a large paper clip with swivel and split shot weight. With a little practice, you can get pretty accurate.

Well,

My mothers computer does not have photo editing software. So - you are going to have to wait until I get back to Texas.

But here is what I found:

This tube is PERFECT - holds all my gear - is about seven inches long and cost about 2:50 (and you can stay awake for like 5 days if you drink it).

I will get more pics soon.

I cant wait to see this bad boy..... Sounds like a perfect kit TF.

Hope youre having a great time dude.

Okay - My dad and I have been working on a method to catch fish and a way to cast this kit maximally - and I think we have it.

Tie this from in order.

1) A Slip Not bobber stop knot:

http://www.wigglefin.com/knots/fishing_knots.html

2) Install a slip bobber - I am using a very small bobber for this.

3) Tie a Dropper Loop:

http://www.wigglefin.com/knots/fishing_knots.html

Leave a lot of line in the loop - cut the loop and tie one or two hooks - I am trying two to try and double my luck.

4) Tie a fairly heavy sinker at a depth that is how far you want the bait to sit off the bottom of the lake / stream:

I am using the improved cinch knot for both my hooks and my egg sinker:

http://www.wigglefin.com/knots/fishing_knots.html

This way all the weight is at the VERY end of the line and allows me to cast this light kit about 20 yards using a two handed 'bolo' style cast. This means (I am a righty) that I hold the tube in my left hand and in my right hand I twirl the line in a circle perpendicular to the ground. Then I let it go and point the tube in my left hand at the target.

With a little practice - you can get QUITE a cast out of it.

You will need to adjust your bobber knot to the correct depth, but dont worry if it is a little slack or under water - you FEEL every hit in your hand. I am REALLY liking this type of fishing.

Wow - I had a GREAT day on Monday with my kit.

I tested the rig above - and then I tested a more conventional method of fishing (Bobber knot - Bobber - split shot - hook) and total I caught about a dozen good sized pan fish with little problem.

I would say I have this kit figured out - and I will give pics when I get them done!
