First impressions of a drop point made by Bob Miller, dba "Holly Knives".
THE KNIFE
(per my modifications):
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=170767&a=1243787&p=16563972
STEEL: 440C, RC 57-59
SIZE & GRIND: 7 3/4" OAL, 3" edge, flatground
SCALES: Bocote hardwood
OTHER STANDARD FEATURES: fileworked spine
I emailed Bob discussing various modifications to the standard model, and he agreed to put on mosaic pins and make the scales flatter and thinner (I personally don't care for thick or rounded scales).
Fit and finish are very nice: there are no gaps between tang and scales, and the filework is very attractive. The knife "feels" just right in my hand; balance is perfect and the grip is very comfortable. The blade was well-sharpened and ready for heavy use; I shredded a bunch of card stock with it and had no complaints.
A sturdy leather sheath came with the knife. I like the side flap with the snap.
And lastly . . . the price was EXTREMELY reasonable. ("Reasonable" meaning that a married, full-time graduate student with a 3 yr old daughter can afford it!)
